One of the questions I hear from Internet home business newcomers is "How soon can I quit my day job?" Of course, there is no set formula that can be applied across the board to every aspiring entrepreneur. We each have different starting points and follow different paths of development.

There are marketers who have the ability to launch a new online business or a new marketing program one month and are already earning a significant income the next month. And there are marketers who struggle for years before they earn enough home business income each month to "risk" quitting their dreaded day jobs.

Internet Marketers who start from a point of inexperience will have a greater challenge reaching their desired income goals. If they bring some offline business or marketing experience to the table, they will have an advantage over those who start with a complete blank slate. But even so, marketing on the Internet takes research, application and testing ... despite what some of the promoters say about it being easy.

Of course, refinements in technology and in marketing systems do make the process easier for more people to quickly get on the home business bandwagon, but there are still some basics that have to be learned and mastered.

It's best if you have your own domain so you have full control over what is placed on your website and how it is presented. Pre-built affiliate websites are fine for beginners, but they are limited. You want a site that you can modify however you want, whenever you want.

The exception to this rule is a pre-built site built on a format that allows you to host it on your own domain and comes with full customization access and tools.

Take my Affiliate Power Central website, for example. This site started out as a template, but I have been making minor modifications over the past week as I have been becoming familiar with the WordPress platform. I'll continue to make improvements as time goes on.

Now, keep in mind that if you have your own domain name and website, you will have to learn some additional skills so you can make the changes yourself without dependence on outside help. That's all part of enhancing your value as a knowledgeable leader and a unique service provider.

The thing is, the more you stand out from the crowd, the greater your perceived value will be. Demonstrate your ability to innovate and people will be drawn to that. People seek leadership.

If you need to learn or further develop your skills to become a marketing leader, one of the best ways to do that is by learning from others who have already mastered those skills. I made reference to our newest marketing program at the beginning of this post. And I pointed out my new website, Affiliate Power Central. That new site is a product of the new program.

My previous web biz blog post elaborated on this a bit more, but basically the new marketing program includes a website, tech support, marketing training and access to coaching from mentors. If you are thinking about starting up an Internet home business and quitting your day job, I encourage you to first consider a few things:

- What level of Internet Marketing experience do you presently have?

- How much time can you commit to your new business each week?

- Are you willing to study and learn some basic marketing and website management skills?

- How "teachable" are you? Experienced marketers are happy to coach and mentor willing students, but you must have a positive attitude towards such instruction.

How you answer these questions could well determine how quickly you could expect to earn the level of home business income you need to be able to quit your day job. Just how much income you need to have before quitting your job, now that's another story!

After a few frustrating days of trial and error with coding for some of the links on the StarrBizz.com web biz marketing site, this Internet business is back on track!

Recently, I went through the process of transferring my web biz hosting needs to a new provider, HostGator. HostGator has a range of services that can truly help an entrepreneur expand their marketing reach and the level of their professionalism substantially.

During the process of the transfer, as can be expected, some minor glitches occurred. As noted in my previous web biz blog post, between HostGator tech support and a couple of my Internet Marketing mentors, we identified the problems and found solutions.

The biggest headache had to do with link re-directs I have created over the past few years using third-party software. There was something wrong in the coding that worked fine at the old web host, but would not work here at the new host.

HostGator identified the offending code immediately, and although my marketing mentors tried to guide me through the steps to correct the problem, it did take me some study and trial and error to work through the solution due to my inexperience with the new hosting platform.

However, once I caught on to the process, fixing the problem at hand was basically quick and simple. You may still find the odd link that still doesn't open properly, but for the most part, I have fixed all of the current links and the most relevant ones. I will get to them all, eventually.

This has been a great relief! You know how stressful it can be when you have a problem but you can't envision the solution. You start to imagine that it will never be resolved. I think that is where vision, goals and commitment to success come in. You must be determined to push through the frustration until you find the solution - whatever it takes.

Now that I've got this Internet home business back on track, it's on to some new projects! Details to follow, soon.

People are funny. We like familiar patterns and we resist change, but in reality, whether we admit it or not, we thrive on change. We tend to become bored and listless when things stay the same for too long. Change gets our attention. It excites us!

It's a new year and I am planning some changes for my StarrBizz.com site. Some of the changes will require that I "do things differently" and possibly learn some new skills. The process is sure to test the limits of my patience.

However, it's all for the good as change is a valuable part of our existence. In fact, I believe it was the French author, Francois de la Rochefoucauld who coined the phrase, "The only thing constant in life is change."

That being the case, we would do well to simply resign ourselves to the inevitable. If we learn to embrace change, we will certainly be happier and come out stronger.

Ask me how I feel about that in a couple of days! lol

Anyway, here we go. I'll post this notice then I'll start the process that may or may not interrupt the StarrBizz website for a short period of time. As mentioned, it could happen sometime over the next few days. Once we're over the hump, I'll be back here to post an update!

1) Publish testimonials and endorsements that you receive from satisfied customers. Many prospects respond well to positive comments from other happy customers. One recommendation: make sure the testimonials and endorsements are true and verifiable. It's YOUR reputation on the line.

2) Publish a thorough list of Frequently Asked Questions. Keep a record of all questions you have received from prospects and customers and all answers you have provided. Add to this list any additional questions and answers regarding your services that prospects or subscribers may potentially be interested in.

3) Publish a complete price list of all the products and services that you offer. You could also include order forms, product descriptions and other sales material.

4) Publish any terms and conditions related to your services or business transactions. You could include return and refund policies and after sales service information.

5) Publish information and articles from the inner pages of your website in autoresponder format. Visitors may not read every page on your site. Also, in autoresponder format, they can easily print out desired pages for reading when offline.

Obviously, not every idea presented here will be suitable for or appeal to every web biz marketer. I present these tips for your consideration and enlightenment only. You must choose what is workable for you and your Internet home business.

I just think it is helpful to read about more autoresponder tips for email marketing so that you can find the ideas and inspiration necessary to advance your marketing business.

Where are you sitting with the current global economic situation? Are you worried? Stressed? Feeling cautious or careful about investing in a home based web biz?

Actually, when I looked at the Bing-specific report, while it did show one of my web biz blog posts in the fifth position, I was happy to discover that the #1 ranking website turned out to be (drum roll) www.StarrBizz.com! I didn't check, yet, to see why that didn't show up in the condensed report, but I'm not complaining.

The report also lists a series of related keywords and when you click on any of them, it brings up a new Keyword Rank report showing where your website sits with the selected keyword. Once again, it is very quick, very informative ... and extremely interesting.

You've seen them around the Internet. You've probably heard the name and wondered what it is or how it works. You might even have looked into it, but were unsure about following through. I'm talking about the web biz Gravatar. Got yours yet?

Gravatar stands for globally recognized avatar. It is your personal icon or avatar image that, once registered and set up, "follows you" around the Internet. In other words, anywhere you go that is gravatar-enabled and where you sign in or leave a comment, your gravatar will appear along with your user name.

I've known about gravatars for a few years, but never made the effort to get mine set up until a few weeks ago. Lately, I've been visiting blogs to pick up ideas, leave comments and, in some cases, earn valuable backlinks.

A fair number of blogs are gravatar-enabled and it always annoyed me that some blog commenters had their avatar or profile photo displayed but all I ever got was a silhouette image that made me look like the Unknown Visitor or a missing person.

It's easy to sign up for a gravatar.com account, and it's free. All you need is an email address.

However, I spent a few days trying to get my gravatar image to appear on enabled sites. I didn't realize that you had to use the same email address on those sites as the one registered to your gravatar image. Of course it makes sense to me now. But then, I simply thought it was like a membership site where you can sign up with a private email and list a public one for web biz marketing purposes.

The good thing is, once you are registered you can add additional email addresses and link the same or different avatar photos to them. Again, it's real easy to do. And once you have at least one email address and corresponding image, in very short order you will begin seeing your gravatar on enabled sites.

Personal branding is a big thing in Internet Marketing and setting up a gravatar allows you to develop a consistent, recognizable presence. Wherever you go on gravatar-enabled sites, your image will be the same. If you update your gravatar image for any reason, it automatically updates everywhere it has been posted. Imagine the convenience!

You can find a tool or a resource for pretty much anything on the Internet. Once you get a little experience with your Internet based home business, you will begin to recognize which resources are beneficial and where to find them.

Most of the online marketing tools that I use have been the result of recommendations by marketing friends and associates. Here are a few that I use for tracking various aspects of my web biz. Each of them reveals some very interesting details that can help you fine tune and further improve your Internet business. These ones are free.

Free Web Biz Tracking Tools

* StatCounter.com: This was the first tracking resource I installed on my website. Recommended by my marketing mentors, StatCounter provides real-time detailed web statistics. You will be able to analyze and monitor all the visitors to your website. Discover your popular pages, entry pages, exit pages, where visitors came from, keyword analysis, visitor lengths and much more.

* Google AdSense: When you install Google AdSense on your web biz content pages, targeted Google ads will be displayed and you will earn revenue from valid clicks or impressions. When you log in to your AdSense account, you can get a variety of insightful reports including the number of AdSense page impressions, clicks, earnings and more. AdSense also gives you access to a variety of other resources and site diagnostic tools.

* Google Analytics: Similar to StatCounter, Google Analytics gives you "rich insights into your website traffic and marketing effectiveness." Examine visitor statistics, pageviews, pages per visit, bounce rate, average time on site and more.

* Google Webmaster Tools: This is the newest work from home web biz tracking tool I have installed on my website. Referred to me by Evan Carmichael of EvanCarmichael.com, the primary aim of Google Webmaster Tools is to improve your site's visibility in Google search results. This resource provides detailed reports that give you Google's view of your site and allows you to diagnose problems. You will also get comprehensive details about internal and external links to your site, and you can find out which search queries drive traffic to your site - see exactly how users arrive there.

I am pleased that Evan encouraged me to install Google Webmaster Tools. The internal and external links reports alone are eye-opening and extremely beneficial to know about.

As mentioned earlier, there are many online resources available to help you to both build your home based web biz and track the activity on your web pages. With a little experience and research, you will discover a wide variety of helpful tools.

I posted this list here today because I know that when you work from home, you need web biz tracking tools and I personally use these resources and consider them to be beneficial.

If you know me, you know that I am a dedicated home business enthusiast. I like looking at work from home ideas and I am actively involved in building an Internet Marketing business around web biz products, services and opportunities. Maybe you have noticed?

Some of my web biz blog readers and home based Internet business friends know that I have been interested in work from home plans and opportunities for a number of years. If you are reading THIS blog post, chances are YOU have some degree of interest in such plans yourself.

How about it? Do you like work from home ideas?

My interest first began some number of decades ago, long before ordinary people like me could even envision something as wonderfully liberating as the World Wide Web. Instant communication! Who would have thought it possible in such a format? (A few people, fortunately.)

In the "olden days" we had to do our marketing strictly by snail mail. You remember that, don't you? That's where you had to write something on a paper, fold it a few times, stick it inside of another paper that was folded and glued into kind of a pouch shape, lick some sticky stuff to seal it, lick a postage stamp to go on the outside, add someone's physical address, deliver it to the local postal service, then hope they do their job and deliver your important sales message to your prospect in some faraway land.

Whew! That was a lot of work just explaining it! Am I ever glad that the good people at the Internet decided to tell us about websites, email marketing and instant electronic delivery of information without the need for printing and physical mailing! And I am forever grateful that they are letting us use the technology.

But, I digress. Years ago I became interested in all those ads in various magazines offering all kinds of opportunities to work from home and earn extra income. I wanted to know how to do it. I wanted to learn all the secrets to home business success that the advertisers promised to reveal.

Well, the "secrets" then are the same as they are now:

1) Find a product (or service or opportunity) in demand;

2) Prepare some powerfully appealing advertising copy (ads, letters, promotional packages);

3) Get your message in front of millions of people;

4) And a percentage of them will become customers.

The number of customers (sales) you got, then as now, depended on the popularity of the product, the quality of the prospect, and your persistence in continuing to send your sales message to the masses.

Over the years, smart marketers learned a few additional tricks ... er, I mean "secrets."

a) Choose a niche market (it can also be a niche within a niche - think about that);

b) Focus your ad copy on how the product solves problems for the customer. Benefits and features are nice, but help the prospect visualize exactly how the product is going to solve some problem for them;

c) Pre-Qualify your customers. Targeted prospects convert better than the "shotgun" approach where you simply mail to the masses irrespective of their interests or needs. To pre-qualify your prospects, you first attract them with a free offer that is directly related to the main product you want to sell. Once they have shown an interest in the free thing, then send your high-powered promotional package for the main product.

d) The Money is in the List: It is typically easier and less expensive to sell a second product to an existing customer than it is to get a new customer. When you pre-qualify your prospects, and especially when they buy something, make a list. Keep their contact information and periodically send them additional offers that you have already determined they will be interested in. Follow up.

Today, the Internet has improved the whole marketing process significantly and instant, mass communication has accelerated the potential for great sales success.

In other words, if you take time to learn how to apply the "secrets to success" your chances for financial independence will be greatly enhanced.

All that remains is to choose a product (or service or opportunity) in demand, get some insight and training from the experts, learn to use technology to your advantage, and be persistent in your income goals.
