The Twitter phenomenon continues to explode! If you're not using Twitter for your web biz, you are missing out on a great social networking opportunity. © GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comI will be completely upfront (aren't I always?) I was a Twitter backslider for about a month or so. I started on Twitter earlier this year and became so enthralled by it that Twitter became my primary social networking focus for a few months. First, I started my gtbulmer Twitter account and worked hard at building up my Following and Followers lists and my Tweets list. My focus was to become an active member of the Twitter community and I achieved that by posting a mix of promotional tweets, informative tweets, inspirational tweets and numerous retweets on a daily basis. Once I got that account rolling, I decided I had better give my StarrBizz.com web biz a Twitter profile, so I started the StarrBizzcom Twitter account and got busy applying the above process to that one on a daily basis, too. And then ... as if I didn't have enough to do ... I launched the Think Green 4 Life environmental niche site and decided I had better start a Twitter profile for that, too! ThinkGreen4Life Twitter account. Things were moving forward real well ... until about a month ago when I got so busy with a variety of online web biz and offline writing projects, something had to give. Twitter was very time consuming, so without truly intending to neglect it, that's exactly what happened. Then, about a week ago, a marketing friend reminded me of the value that Twitter can bring, and seeing a dip in my StarrBizz.com visitor statistics, I decided it was time to get back on the Twitter bandwagon. I'm still not back up to the level of activity that I was committing to Twitter a few months ago, but I'm slowly creeping back up there. Twitter isn't the only social networking game in town, and it's not going to produce overnight marketing success for you, but it's still a very popular site, so no matter what else you are doing, you should still make some time to Twitter for your web biz. That's what I'm doing! When you talk about Social Networking you may not immediately think of online business and marketing forums, but many such forums follow similar social principles. Here are a few of my personally recommended web biz forums. © GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comI am a dedicated forum participant. At present, I am a contributing member of five public forums and at least one closed membership forum. I enjoy online marketing forums for several reasons: - Valuable marketing insight and inspiration - Exposure to latest marketing ideas and trends - Social Networking with likeminded web biz marketers - Opportunity to share insight, experience and general opinions - Opportunity to promote my web biz products, services and programs - Get feedback on various aspects of my marketing practices and materials Forum marketing, as with any form of social networking, is not always a quick way to gain recognition and get customers. It takes time to establish your presence, build relationships and develop the community's confidence in you as a preferred supplier. But it is a good way - no, a GREAT way to expand your knowledge base, become familiar with the market and learn effective marketing techniques and practices. Every forum is different. They each have their own personality and their own unique focus on business and marketing. I like being a member of several forums for the variety; I enjoy them for their various qualities and characteristics. Here is my current list of forum favourites: - Entrepreneur Forums at EvanCarmichael.com: Read my profile, or click one of the links to enter the forum. - Conquer Your Niche Forum: Membership is free and there is also an attractive upgrade option. - Warrior Forum: If you join the forum, please note me as your referrer. One great way to expand the reach of your marketing message is to join forces with other Internet business owners. You can form strategic alliances to help each other out. Here are a few thoughts on ways to power up your web biz with the help of friends.© GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.com A few web biz blog posts ago, I gave some personal examples of Internet Home Business Friends Who Inspire. Today, I'll take that idea a few steps further with thoughts on how to partner with people to reach far more targeted prospects than you can on your own. In previous posts, I've mentioned some of the benefits of social networking with sites like Twitter, online membership groups like the Niche Power Group and business forums like the EvanCarmichael.com Entrepreneur Forums. Not only will you come into contact with like-minded web biz marketers, be inspired by their stories and learn from their experiences, but you will also have the opportunity to build relationships of mutual convenience and profitability. Now, let me emphasize the "relationship" aspect in this equation. There are two ways to attempt to establish a strategic alliance with another web biz marketer: you can come at them out of the blue, introduce yourself and hope you make a good first impression; or you can join their social group, get to know them, let them get to know you, and then suggest an alliance that you determine to be suitable and appropriate. Once you establish that friendly relationship, here are a few ways you might consider to help power up your web biz for mutual benefit: 1. Swap endorsement advertisements with your web biz partners. Endorsement ads can attract more sales and traffic than regular ads, and you get the additional benefit of backlinks. 2. Exchange banner ads. This can be a straight exchange for advertising space, or you can sweeten the pot by selling each other's products (for a commission). You can also cross promote related products. 3. Create a catalog of Free Bonuses, also known as Joint Venture Giveaways, that you each advertise and promote. Also, you can let other marketers use the catalog as an incentive for their own prospects and watch it go viral. 4. Exchange Guest Blog posts and articles to be posted on your websites. 5. Exchange ads with ezine publishers. They run your ad in their publication or on their website and you run their ad on your website or in your publication, if you have one. The basis of success with Internet Marketing is getting your message out to as many qualified prospects as possible. One way to expand your reach is through strategic alliances with other marketers. There are many ways to power up your web biz with the help of friends. I hope you find the ideas I've presented here today to be informative and inspirational in some way. When you work from home, you may be in business FOR yourself but you never have to be in business BY yourself. You have the choice to social network with other like-minded entrepreneurs and benefit from their knowledge and encouragement. Here are a few Internet home business friends who inspire me.© GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comI am a member of several online social networks where I interact regularly with home based business entrepreneurs from around the world. In today's web biz blog post I am going to tell you about two who have inspired and encouraged me over the past few days. Web Bizz Blog ImprovementsThe basic plan for my Internet home business is to create a marketing site ( StarrBizz.com) that is appealing to visitors in both design and content. I feel somewhat confident in my "eye for design" but my technical skills are severely lacking. However, thanks to web biz mentors and friends, I am learning. The page template for my website is one that many other marketers also use. We have the freedom to change and modify the template any way we want, but for inexperienced designers like myself, it is a long, slow process. On occasion, we get really brave and ask our home business friends and associates for "feedback." Well, you know what they say about honesty; the truth sometimes hurts. You like to think you're doing everything right and there's nothing more you can do to improve ... and then the feedback arrives. (I say that with a chuckle.) Fortunately, when your friends are supportive and want to see you succeed, the feedback they provide is constructive, relative and helpful. Ros Bott, The Career Life Coach, gave me some advice for my Web Bizz Blog a couple of days ago that should have been obvious to me. Ros said to add some pictures or graphics to help break up long stretches of text. Duh. I know that. So why wasn't I doing it? Good question. Mental block? I really don't know. Thanks, Ros, for waking me up!I already knew how to insert photos and graphics, but the challenge I had was knowing how to "wrap" or "float" text around the graphics. This is where my next Internet home business friends come in. Leon and Deana Bowes, Christian Home Based Business, don't know it yet, but they provided the inspiration and technical knowledge I needed to decipher the "text floating" challenge. Knowing that some of my Internet Marketing friends use interesting design ideas, I looked around and noticed that Leon and Deana use graphics with floated text at the beginning of their blog posts. Sooo ... I took a sneak peek at their source code and discovered the secret to text floating success. Thanks, Leon and Deana!I can't end this blog post without acknowledging my own dear spouse who is not directly involved in my home based web biz, but supports me in other ways. She spent time surfing the Internet looking for design solutions and we also spent some "quality time" together scanning through an HTML sourcebook seeking solutions. She is my life partner AND my best friend!Building a business can be challenging, but remember this: you are not alone. You can enhance the experience by drawing strength from Internet home business friends who inspire you. One of today's most popular social networking sites has just introduced some new design upgrades as Twitter unveils new pages when you click the Following and Followers links.© GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comLog in to your Twitter account, click on Following or Followers, and you will discover some new features and options. On your Following page, you can now choose to see an Expanded view or a List view. In List view, you see the member's avatar picture in miniature plus their Twitter ID and their name. In Expanded view, you see their full-size avatar pic, their Twitter ID, their name, where they are located and their most recent Twitter post. In either view, there is an icon beside each member that produces a drop-down menu letting you choose to send an @message, Unfollow, or Block. The Followers page has the Expanded or List view options, a "Follow" icon, and the drop-down menu offers these choices: @message, Direct Message, Follow, Block. Also on the Followers page, you will see a check mark beside other members who you are reciprocally following. By the way, these new page features are available on any member profile you visit. More details are available in the official Twitter blog. Look for the June 30, 2009, blog post. It's nice to see these upgrades, but personally, I don't expect them to improve my Twitter experience. Still, human nature is a fickle thing and as resistant as many of us are to change, we also respond well to new things because we have a tendency to get bored with things that remain the same for too long. Check out the changes for yourself as Twitter unveils new pages and other design upgrades. Social Media and Social Networking sites can be great tools to help build your online presence and home based web biz success. Sometimes, recognition comes from unexpected sources!© GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comThanks to my friends at EvanCarmichael.com, I was recently given a unique honour: I was featured on the YoungEntrepreneur.com blog. The YoungEntrepreneur.com website was founded by the entrepreneurial team of brothers Matthew and Adam Toren, two young men who epitomize the entrepreneurial spirit. The YoungEntrepreneur.com blog is managed by Evan Carmichael, another shining example of inspiring entrepreneurship. I have been an active member of the EvanCarmichael.com Entrepreneur Forums on Evan's website since August of 2008 after being referred there by Internet Marketing associate and friend, David Hurley. Online business and marketing forums offer one more avenue for effective Social Networking. In many respects, I am still a novice when it comes to Social Networking, but the Entrepreneur Forums are one social site that I visit daily for information, inspiration and to connect on a more personal basis with other entrepreneurs. In my opinion and experience, a key to success with online forums in particular and Social Networking sites in general is to become active as a regular, contributing member. Do not simply show up to promote your products, programs, services and links; be sure to include a respectful blend of helpful, insightful information, recommendations and opinions as well. We all know that the purpose of business and marketing is to generate sales. However, while forums and social sites can be a source of paying customers, we, as savvy entrepreneurs, should recognize the greater value these sites hold for us. Forums and Social Networking sites should be viewed as powerful tools to leverage our presence and our reach beyond what simple promotion might achieve. When you take time to develop the respect of other members of your chosen forum(s) or social site(s) they will be more likely to recommend you to others within their circles of influence. The amazing Twitter Social Networking site is a perfect case in point. Let's say you have developed a following on Twitter of 1,000 members - that is, other Twitter members who have chosen to follow your Twitter posts (called "tweets"). Each tweet you post will potentially be seen by your 1,000 followers. Suppose you become known by your followers as a person who posts highly informative, insightful, helpful tweets. (Not just links and promos for your own stuff.) What will happen is some of your followers will then "re-tweet" your posts. That is, they will copy your tweets and re-tweet them so that all of THEIR followers could potentially see them. Now, suppose just 100 of your followers do this and each of them have 1,000 of their own followers on Twitter; your reach has just expanded from 1,000 to 100,000. Do you see the potential?Forums like the EvanCarmichael.com Entrepreneur Forums and blogs like the YoungEntrepreneur.com blog can work in a similar way; members and visitors who like what they see about you will then refer either the respective forum post, blog post or your website to others. This leverages your reach and expands your prospect base. But first, you have to give members and owners of forums, social sites and business blogs a reason to want to promote or profile you. In my case, I've been quite active in the EvanCarmichael.com Entrepreneur Forums since last summer and as a result, Marketing Manager Kevin Lee recommended me to site owner Evan Carmichael who, in turn, submitted my information to be featured in the YoungEntrepreneur.com blog! Again, I feel honoured. It was not a form of recognition I was expecting or had in any way been aiming for. It came as a complete surprise. I present it today as an excellent personal example of Social Networking for web biz success. I've been a member of the Twitter social networking site for several weeks now and the experience keeps getting better and better!© GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comSocial networking has become such a vital part of every home based web biz marketer's game plan and Twitter has developed into a leading force in social networking. The biggest benefit of social networking is that it is free; you can reach thousands of prospects easily and economically. The challenge of social networking is that you have to spend time developing your presence on a social media site and time developing relationships of trust. Twitter definitely simplifies the process. Sign-up and set-up take a matter of minutes. Then all you do is begin posting your "tweets" in 140 characters or less. You can post as often as you like, but the secret to social networking success is to offer info, insight and value, not just blatant promos or ads for your products and services. You will find that once you become active in posting tweets, Twitter members will automatically start following you. And that is the object of social networking; to build a list of followers. There are a few techniques to build your followers faster. One way is to follow other members. It's easy to do on Twitter - just a click of the button - and most members you follow will follow you back. As your list of followers grows, it becomes even more important to create a balance between informative tweets and promotional tweets. Also, it helps to keep your tweets relative to your basic theme. For example, I try to keep the majority of my gtbulmer tweets focused on the theme of business and online marketing. I try to keep the majority of my ThinkGreen4Life tweets focused on the theme of the environment and going green. If your tweets depart too far afield of the theme that attracted your followers, some will un-follow you, and on Twitter, it's just as easy to un-follow as it is to follow. Another way to help build your followers is to "re-tweet" the posts of other members. Basically, you click the "reply" icon to paste their twitter ID into your comment field; you type in the letters "RT" (meaning re-tweet), then copy and paste the portion of their text that you want to re-tweet. After making sure it is 140 characters or less, you then click the "update" button to post the re-tweet. When you re-tweet the comments of other members, they appreciate it and will likely pay more attention to your tweets. Also, they might return the favour and re-tweet some of your tweets. There is a HUGE advantage to this: when they re-tweet your tweets, their ENTIRE list of followers could potentially see your messages. There are two key benefits to this: - First, you instantly multiply your exposure to members you might otherwise never reach. - Second, when one member re-tweets another, many of their followers begin following the member who has just been re-tweeted. With that in mind, I actively watch for tweets that I think my followers will be interested in, then re-tweet those tweets. It's one more way I can provide service and value to members of my growing social network on Twitter. After just a few weeks as a member of Twitter, I have developed a nice following and I am following many informative and inspirational members. Not only have I been learning a great deal on a variety of topics, but I've been finding some great links to share with friends on other social networking sites. If you are looking to build your home based web biz or advance any form of business or Internet Marketing that you may be involved in, I recommend you consider the value of Social Networking with Twitter. That's the catchphrase of the Social Networking site, Twitter. All you do is answer the question, "What are you doing?" in 140 characters or less, several times a day.© GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comI know that I've barely scratched the surface of Twitter knowledge. But there are a few things that I do try to do when on the Twitter site. Twitter is as much a social entertainment site as it is a social business networking site - it all depends on who you choose to follow and who chooses to follow you. Keeping that in mind, I try to tweet several times throughout the day to catch various other members on their schedules and I try to mix it up between business and personal social networking. In other words, I post web biz tips and recommendations; I post inspirational quotes, both business and personal; and I post just plain old news or entertainment notes that may not be related in any way to business or marketing. If you are a home based Internet business marketer like me, you don't HAVE to mix it up. You can focus only on business and marketing - nothing wrong with that. But if you DO mix it up, you stand a greater chance of expanding your base of followers, keeping them interested and entertained and priming them to become prospects and customers ... or maybe even joint venture (JV) partners. Follow the FamousI've discovered that there are NUMEROUS well know and famous members on Twitter. For example, I am following Anthony Robbins! (But I doubt Tony is following me! LOL) Follow Tony Robbins on TwitterAnother popular figure I am following is Ellen DeGeneres of The Ellen Show. Follow Ellen on TwitterNOTE: View Ellen's Twitter Monologue: Ellen's Twitter MonologueI follow well-known people for TWO REASONS: 1) For my personal interest, enlightenment or entertainment; 2) So I can do some NAME DROPPING in my Twitter tweets! Here's what I mean, and to be truthful, I don't just do this for the famous, I do it for ALL Twitter members who I follow. In addition to posting comments about my own web biz interests and activities, I also read other tweets, then respond to several of them throughout the day. Sometimes this initiates some mutual tweets back and forth between me and other members. Sometimes it just helps to highlight valuable information they have posted. One benefit of doing this is it shows you to be an active member of the Twitter community. Other members will more likely want to follow you, or keep following you, if they see you are active, contributing and highlighting others from time-to-time, not just blowing your own horn. Twitter has become a great site for personal social networking. Whether or not it develops as a good business networking site remains to be seen. For now, it is so incredibly popular, you simply must join and get involved, even if it's just a few tweets a day. So, when you answer the question on Twitter - "What are you doing?" - what will YOU say in 140 characters or less? I tweet about my home based web biz ... and a whole lot of other things, too! Compared to many, I am still a Twitter newbie, having joined this popular Social Networking site just a few short weeks ago. Here is my invitation to you to follow me on Twitter.© GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comTwitter has become quite a remarkable Social Networking success story and "Follow me on Twitter" has quickly become a popular catchphrase among home based Internet business marketers. Twitter is building worldwide membership at a phenomenal pace and has attracted the attention of mainstream media. One of our regional television stations ran a news story on Twitter last week and had regional viewers flocking to Twitter by the hundreds to sign up and follow the station's regular Twitter tweets. In a smart marketing move, the station then made periodic announcements during television newscasts over the next few days to update viewers on the number of Twitter followers the station had received up to that moment. The way Twitter works is members make short real-time posts, called tweets, to let people know what they are doing at that moment. The tweets can only be 140 characters or less, so it makes tweeting quick to do and easy for followers to read. Since it is a social site, the tweet topics are wide open; basically, anything you want to tweet about, keeping it within respectable social conventions, of course. As a Twitter member, when you are logged in and each time you refresh your browser, all new tweets will appear from other members you have chosen to follow. Similarly, each time you post a tweet, it will appear to those members who have chosen to follow you. You can post tweets as often as you like. However, I recommend not posting too many right after each other, or it may look like spamming. I want people to follow me on Twitter, so I try to spread my tweets throughout the day. One nice thing about Twitter is that it is very easy to use. Members have complete control over who they choose to follow. It is simple to select which members to follow or un-follow. Members use Twitter for a variety of purposes, from social, to business, to just plain entertainment. They follow the sources of information most relevant to them, and they post information of interest and relevance to members who choose to follow them. Personally, I post notices of blog updates and website changes, inspirational or motivational quotes, recommendations for web biz programs or marketing resources, links to fellow marketer's sites that catch my eye and responses to tweets from other Twitter members. When you follow me on Twitter, you will see that I sometimes tweet just plain old answers to the standard Twitter question of "What are you doing?" In those cases, I might say, "Taking a lunch break," or "Doing keyword research for an article or blog post," or (ironically) "Just finished feeding sunflower seeds to the twittering birds in my backyard!"The idea is to keep your name and your face in front of other Twitter members. Obviously, the more relevant, informative and useful your posts are, the more likely you will be to retain your followers and attract new ones. It is like any form of advertising or promotion: give them a good reason to follow you and they will keep following you. Additionally, the more interesting or helpful your tweets are, the more open people will be to your marketing recommendations and suggestions. If you are using Twitter as a marketing outlet, then work at being the kind of member that people enjoy following. They will then be much more likely to check out your website and blog pages. As a Twitter newbie, I am still discovering ways to use this popular Social Networking site to my home based web biz advantage. But one thing is for sure - I appreciate having followers and I turn around and follow most members who are following me. So, come on, follow me on Twitter today! My Affiliate Power Site: Multiple Streams of Residual Income!

Most entrepreneurs are self-motivated and keep that way by focusing on their dreams and aspirations. Still, a little external motivation doesn't hurt. Here's a great source. © GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comThe Internet has brought the Global Village to our desktops. Unlimited access to resources for inspiration and motivation are easily at our fingertips. One such resource is EvanCarmichael.com. EvanCarmichael.com offers an impressive assortment of business and marketing resources providing motivation and strategies for entrepreneurs. I discovered the full range of entrepreneurial benefits at the EvanCarmichael.com site after joining the EvanCarmichael.com Entrepreneur Forums. In the Entrepreneur Forums, I exchange ideas and experiences with business people of all walks of life and all marketing backgrounds. The forum atmosphere is friendly and the personal insights shared are, many times, inspirational. Beyond the educational and inspirational value of the Entrepreneur Forums, there is an additional incentive that has rewarded me on several occasions. Site owner Evan Carmichael sponsors a forum posting contest each month where: - The Top Poster gets featured on the EvanCarmichael.com homepage for an entire month (think of the exposure!); - One fortunate forum member wins 100,000 ad page views ($1,500 value); - And another wins a Trump University online training program ($595 value). * At the close of the February contest, my friend and home business marketing associate Tanny Lahav of Israel emerged victorious as the Top Poster for the month. * Friend and fellow marketing associate David Hurley of Japan won the Trump University program. * And yours truly won the 100,000 ad page views!I know I speak for each of the winners when I say that our intent and purpose for participating in the Entrepreneur Forums is NOT to win prizes, but to be inspired and motivated by other marketers and to contribute our thoughts and ideas where we can. However, it is a wonderful benefit and bonus to be rewarded with such valuable prizes for simply doing what we enjoy doing. All credit goes to Evan Carmichael for creating his motivational website, for adding the Entrepreneur Forums and for sponsoring the prizes. The forum experience at EvanCarmichael.com is great, but my message today is that the Entrepreneur Forums are simply the tip of the iceberg of the true and total value that the site has to offer. Everybody can benefit from a little extra inspiration now and again, and when it comes to motivation for entrepreneurs, EvanCarmichael.com wins hands down as an online leader! My Affiliate Power Site: Multiple Streams of Residual Income!

File this under, "Why didn't I start doing this sooner?" Here's a Social Networking site where you post short, frequent comments to let your friends and web biz contacts know what you are doing right now.© GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities, StarrBizz.comIt's not a new Social Networking phenomenon by any means, but still, there are many home based Internet business marketers who have not yet discovered the ease and benefit of using Twitter tweets to network with others. I was slow to get on the Twitter bandwagon, but yesterday, at the prompting of Cynthia Minnaar, one of my web biz marketing mentors, I finally checked it out and was amazed at how easy it is and how little time it takes to use this social networking service. It takes just a few minutes to sign up and log in for the first time. Another couple of minutes and you have your user profile and homepage settings all set up. And in one more minute, you can have your first Twitter tweet posted! That's it. You're done. Move on to other marketing tasks. It really is that simple. There is virtually no learning curve, like there is with some social networking sites that take an hour to set up, then who knows how long to read through tutorials and FAQs to learn how to do everything the "right way." The premise of Twitter is that you check in frequently throughout the day and simply post quick comments telling your Twitter followers what you are up to at the moment. The system allows comments of not more than 140 characters long - that's about 20 words or less. While there, you have a quick look at what other Twitter members who you are following are doing. You're in. You're out. You're on to other things. Many home based Internet business marketers are using Twitter to build up a bigger base of business contacts and marketing prospects. You attract followers with short, informative or helpful posts and you follow other members and work at developing mutual business relationships with them. It is recommended to try to keep the number of members you are following around the same as those who are following you. This sort of balance shows you are an active member of the community. To create a positive image for yourself on Twitter, be sure to personalize your homepage. Select an attractive background and upload your photo. Again, this takes less than a minute to do; it's very easy. Here's one more Twitter tip that makes it even better: TweeterGetter - Get 19,530 new twitter followers in 30 days!TweeterGetter shows you a way of getting 1000's of new followers on Twitter. I just started using it myself and it's starting to work already. Well, my friends and web biz blog readers, that's my exciting Social Networking news for today!
