Link building remains one of the most important tasks a marketer should focus on when building an Internet home business. Here are a few link building tips for your web biz. © GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comDeveloping a strong, profitable marketing business online involves a variety of methods and good practices. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is often the first thing that comes to an entrepreneur's mind when thinking about creating a successful web biz. Effective SEO practices include an emphasis on link building. Search engines take notice to websites that have links coming from strongly related, popular sites. The more links you can develop, and the more popular the site, the better it is for your website. Link building can take on many forms. One excellent way to get links is to give other website owners a reason to want to link to your site. One way to encourage that interest is to offer them the opportunity to give some of your things away free to their visitors. Many website owners are looking for free things to give away because they know it draws more traffic to their site. They may not have the knowledge or experience or time to create the desired freebie themselves. If you have something of quality to give away that relates to or appeals to their targeted audience, they will be happy to post your website link on their site for the benefit of their prospects and visitors. Here's where this link building tip could get exciting. Visitors they send to get your freebie may decide to also give it away and this could make your traffic go viral! The more people that link to your website the more traffic you will get. What types of freebies are given away on the Internet to increase traffic? Here are a few ideas: Free Information: Free reports, articles, eBooks, online audio recordings, email courses are all popular if they are designed well and offer valuable information. Free Affiliate Program: Software is readily available online to help you turn a product or a product line into an affiliate program where your affiliates earn commissions on sales. Free Software: If you do not have your own software products, many such resources are available online for you to offer to your visitors or other webmasters. Free Online Services: Offer a free service of some kind, like email accounts, search engine submission, basic SEO services, marketing consulting services. The more popular your website becomes, the more likely that other website owners will want to link with you for one reason or another. However, the most successful online businesses are the ones that take an active and aggressive approach towards link building. The process becomes standard routine for them no matter how popular or busy their website is. You must develop a link building strategy and continually work on it. The link building tips for your web biz presented here are worth considering if your goal is web biz traffic success. You will find many great tools on the Internet to measure and monitor various elements of your web biz. Have you used the SEOCentro Keyword Rank Checker yet? You will get some very interesting results. © GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comSEOCentro has numerous free web marketing resources you can use to measure, monitor or otherwise analyze the performance of your website and your web biz. One of the resources is the Keyword Rank Checker. This is an excellent tool to check your search engine position ranking in the major search engines for any keyword. This tool also produces an advanced report that includes related keywords. The Keyword Rank Checker is easy to use and the results are produced very quickly. All you do is key in the keyword or keyword phrase you want to check, plus the domain ( www.StarrBizz.com for example), a competitor's domain if you want (it is optional), and a verification or access code. I entered one of my top keyword phrases - web biz opportunities - and was very pleased with the (expected) results! The phrase ranked #1 in Google, #1 in Yahoo! and ...what? Only #5 in Bing?Actually, when I looked at the Bing-specific report, while it did show one of my web biz blog posts in the fifth position, I was happy to discover that the #1 ranking website turned out to be ( drum roll) www.StarrBizz.com! I didn't check, yet, to see why that didn't show up in the condensed report, but I'm not complaining. The report also lists a series of related keywords and when you click on any of them, it brings up a new Keyword Rank report showing where your website sits with the selected keyword. Once again, it is very quick, very informative ... and extremely interesting. Give it a try. It's free. It's easy to use and the Keyword Rank Checker is just one of many free resources available on the site to measure and analyze the performance of your website and your web biz. Natural search engine traffic is the best traffic to get because those people want what you've got. To get that traffic, you need the right web biz keywords. Keyword research is vital.© GT Bulmer http://www.StarrBizz.comNatural traffic from the search engines can produce excellent results but you have to be diligent in your keyword research to effectively position your site to attract search engine traffic. Keywords and keyword phrases are the words that people enter into an Internet search engine to help find what they are looking for online. The search engine then returns a list of websites that contain the keyword or phrase that has been entered. Your aim is to get your web biz website on the first page of the search results because most people click only on a few links on the first page and seldom look any further. The higher search engine rank you can achieve, the better. Web biz sites that have been effectively optimized for particular keyword phrases stand a better chance of showing up on the first page of the search results. There are several steps to effective search engine optimization (SEO). Keyword research is the first step. In the SEO eBook by Suzanne Morrison - 3 Steps to Search Engine Success - three important criteria are given to guide your keyword research: - Select keyword phrases that are relevant to your target market and your website; don't disappoint or discourage your visitors by attracting them with a keyword phrase that is not supported by related content on your site. Do that and you will lose them fast. - Research and choose keywords that get a good number of searches per month. Achieving a higher search engine rank only helps you if it is a keyword that people are actually searching for. - Find keyword phrases that are not overwhelmed by competition. You need to know that you have a reasonable chance of ranking well for your keyword phrase. Otherwise, you may not achieve the desired result. Web biz tools are available online to help with effective keyword research. Wordtracker is a paid service, but a trial offer is available to test it out. Google Adwords Keyword Tool is a free service. After selecting a keyword phrase that is relevant to your market and your site and that has a good number of searches each month, type it into the Google search engine and check out the sites that are returned on the first page of the results. Use the MarketLeap.com Link Popularity Checker to check how many backlinks your site has compared to what the leading websites have. Can you compete? Will you be able to build up enough web biz backlinks to make a run for that first page search engine rank? How well optimized are the leading websites? Have they used their keywords in the page title, the page headline and throughout the text of the site? Can you do better in this area? Attention to these details when doing your keyword research will help you make better choices. As mentioned, there is more to search engine optimization than keyword research, but keyword research definitely needs to be your starting point. If you hope to achieve higher search engine rank, this is a step that you must pay particular attention to. This is an unexpected Part Three to my HTML How-To series. I'll try to focus mostly on the "How To" part in this post so you can focus on YOUR home based web biz marketing success, not mine!© GT Bulmer http://www.StarrBizz.comI hadn't originally planned a three-part personal introspection focusing on my HTML How-To experiences, but events conspired this week to cause it to happen. A construction crew tore up our telephone lines this week and it was several days before a temporary fix could be put in place. As a result, my Internet access was inhibited, and therefore my ability to effectively research and write articles or blog posts. I never knew how much I depended on the Internet for my home based web biz marketing and freelance writing activities! Okay. Back to HTML How-To: What Do I Know!We know from Part One and Part Two that HTML is a markup language: HTML stands for " Hyper Text Markup Language." * A markup language uses a set of annotations to text that determines how the text is to be displayed - for example bold, italics, underline, headings, paragraphs, lists, etc. * HTML is written in the form of tags surrounded by angle brackets, like this: < >. In addition to describing the structure of text-based information in a document it is also used to describe the structure of interactive forms, images and various other page elements. * HTML tags usually come in pairs that include opening and closing tags. A start tag is placed before the text that is being formatted and an end tag after the text. For example, if you want to make the text bold, you would include a "b" tag or a "strong" tag before the text (with angle brackets around the "b" or the "strong" - not quotation marks). To close the bold tag, at the end of the text, you would include a forward slash in the tag - for example, /b or /strong surrounded by the angle brackets < >. * If you miss the opening tag, the formatting will not take effect. * If you miss the closing tag, you risk formatting the entire remainder of your document with (in this example) the bold command. Common HTML tags, and the ones I use most often, include: (angle brackets must be used but are not shown here) - b or strong - for bold text - u - for underlines - i - for italics - body - for the document text body - title - for titles - h1 and h2 - for headers or headlines - p - for paragraph - br - for line break (note: no closing tag used for line breaks) - a href="http://www.starrbizz.com" (with angle brackets before the a and after the .com") followed by YourName.com or any keyword text you choose, and closed with the /a tag (with angle brackets before and after the /a). This is a hypertext link or anchor text link. * Remember to always include the respective closing tag for each markup command you give (unless otherwise indicated). The tags I have included here are simply the basic ones I am most familiar with. Other markup tags are used to display various text and page elements to give your text and web pages more detailed structure. Many excellent HTML guides are available on the Internet and can be found by doing a search for HTML How To. * One guide is the Introduction to HTML available from w3schools.com. To create and edit your HTML documents and web pages you will need to use an HTML editor. Many free HTML editors can be found by doing an Internet search. As technology advances, the need for home based web biz marketing enthusiasts to know and use HTML is diminishing. Newer editing programs are making it simpler to do web page changes without HTML knowledge or ability. However, I still consider it valuable to have a basic understanding of HTML How-To. It can come in handy and it is one more resource that can empower your ability to advance your web biz marketing success. Works for me!Sincerely, GT Bulmer www.StarrBizz.com - Home Based Internet Business Ideas and OpportunitiesRead ... HTML How-To: What Do I Know! Part One and Part Two:* HTML How-To: What Do I Know! For some home based Internet business marketers, learning HTML is a huge challenge. However, with a little patience and a little persistence, you CAN master the basics for Web Biz Success!© GT Bulmer http://www.StarrBizz.comIn yesterday's Web Bizz Blog, I mentioned the mystery of HTML, emphasized the importance and value of lifelong learning and the guidance of experienced mentors and outlined some of the HTML basics. Today: A Struggle, an Alarming Experience and a BreakthroughFor me, in the beginning, learning HTML well enough to make changes to my StarrBizz.com website was a real struggle. Some of the basics, like bold, underline and italics were easy. Setting up hypertext links wasn't too difficult. And I quickly got the hang of linking images. But working with other web page elements proved to be more challenging. Like how to properly place new text boxes so I could insert text or banners or other features exactly where I wanted to on the page. It was months before the HTML code to do that started making sense to the point where I knew what I was doing and understood why I was doing it. It has to do with how tables and frames are set up in the background code, understanding where they start and end, and how they relate to each other in that code. Then there was the alarming experience I had with my Web Biz Blog template. One time, early on in my HTML experience, I was making what I thought was a very simple change to the template and wham! There went the entire template formatting! All kinds of strange characters showed up on the actual web page; text was missing and replaced with HTML code and code words; links to other page elements, plus archived stories and a few other very important things no longer functioned properly. The whole thing was messed up. I looked at the source code and tried to correct the errors, but nothing I did would reverse or resolve the mess completely. As an HTML newbie, I was terror-stricken for the better part of a day as I tried to get my blog fixed. Eventually, I restored the template from my backup copy (thank goodness for the wisdom of doing a backup copy!), then went back and made that simple original change using a different method, and everything turned out fine. My struggles with HTML continued for a number of months until one day, a breakthrough! It was like an awakening. I was busy working on some site changes when suddenly it dawned on me ... I KNEW what I was doing! Whereas before I felt like I was flying blind, applying hit and miss changes, having to double check and review every little thing to see if it worked or not, this time I was zipping through with complete awareness, understanding ... and confidence! What a great feeling of empowerment. I still have a long ways to go to fully grasp the intricacies of HTML. But now that I know the basics and feel somewhat competent and confident, I am encouraged to forge ahead. If you are new to HTML, or have some experience but are struggling with the challenge, be encouraged: it does get better with time. Give it a chance, stick with it and chances are you will experience a breakthrough, too. Once again, I emphasize the value of lifelong learning and a commitment to practice and persistence. In the long run, you will benefit on a personal level and you will be better able to effectively promote your home based Internet business ideas and opportunities. Internet Based Home Business: Work From Home - Make Money Online!
When you're new to Web Biz Marketing, everything is a mystery, and I think for many home based Internet business opportunity marketers like me nothing is more mysterious than HTML!© GT Bulmer http://www.StarrBizz.comWhen I first started developing my home based web biz and started promoting Internet business ideas and opportunities I was a complete newbie to HTML. HTML stands for "Hyper Text Markup Language" and it is a language that was totally foreign to me! Sure, others who had gone before tried to convince me that HTML wasn't all that difficult to understand and learn. But when you look at a page of text filled with odd characters in weird formations, and you know that altering or deleting even a few of those characters could mess up your whole web page (it happened to me!), you get a little leery about attempting the task. Fortunately, I have two things going for me: 1) I am devoted to lifelong learning, and even though I get frustrated easily (ask my marketing mentors!), I am able to stay focused and committed to learning the new things I want to learn. It may take time, but I manage it because experience has taught me that it is well worth it in the long run. 2) I found a mentorship group with the experience, knowledge and patience to guide and instruct me in my quest for home based web biz marketing success. And it turned out that several of them have great insight into HTML and SEO (search engine optimization). HTML, What Do I Know? A VERY Brief Overview of the BasicsHTML is a markup language. A markup language uses a set of annotations to text that determines how the text is to be displayed - for example bold, italics, underline, headings, paragraphs, lists, etc. HTML is written in the form of tags surrounded by angle brackets. In addition to describing the structure of text-based information in a document it is also used to describe the structure of interactive forms, images and various other page elements. You can tell which files and URLs contain HTML - they usually have .html or .htm in the filename extension. Much of what I have learned about HTML and SEO has come from the guidance of web biz marketing mentors in the PIPS Power Group. - PIPS stands for Plug-In Profit Site, a complete Business-in-a-Box home based Internet business marketing plan that includes everything necessary for web biz success. - The PIPS Power Group is a group of experienced PIPS members who provide training, support and resources for other PIPS members. - 3 Steps to Search Engine Success is the newest SEO eBook by PIPS Power Group mentor Suzanne Morrison. This new eBook delivers! I attribute most of the web biz SEO success I have experienced to date to the information and guidance I have received from Suzanne. HTML How-To: What Do I Know! Part Two - A Struggle, an Alarming Experience and a BreakthroughIn tomorrow's Web Bizz Blog post, I will write about my early home based Internet business struggles with HTML, an alarming experience I had with my web biz blog page, and the HTML breakthrough that eventually came for me. My favourite SEO expert's new eBook, "3 Steps to Search Engine Success" has just been released!© GT Bulmer http://www.StarrBizz.comActually, I'm being a bit dramatic there. The secrets to Search Engine Success aren't really secret. And neither is the source of much of my Search Engine Optimization (SEO) information. Suzanne Morrison is one of my home based Internet business mentors and it is Suzanne's SEO expertise that has been guiding the progress of my StarrBizz.com website towards the top of the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). Suzanne's new eBook, 3 Steps to Search Engine Success, provides thorough, step-by-step SEO guidance in simple language. StarrBizz.com is improving in the SERPs weekly because of what I am learning and applying from Suzanne's guidance. For many struggling home based Internet business marketers, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and success in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) may seem like a difficult subject to understand and master, but really, there are three steps that make the task easier to grasp: 1) Keyword Research: Basically, you want keywords that get a good number of searches each month, but don't have an overwhelming amount of competition from other online marketers. 2) On Site Optimization: You want to optimize certain areas and certain features of your website; titles, tags, headlines, content, ALT tags in your images, even your choice of domain name. 3) Off Site Optimization: Off site, you want to focus on Article Marketing, building backlinks, submitting your site to directories, posting in forums, commenting on blogs and social bookmarketing. If you are an experienced online marketer, these three steps will not be difficult for you. If you are still building your knowledge and experience with Internet marketing and SEO, then you might benefit from 3 Steps to Search Engine Success because it explains these three steps in much more detail and provides you with links to tools, like: - Keyword Research Tool - There are several available, some are free. - Keyword Density Tool - Free ones available. - Backlink Checking Tool - Several available, most are free. - Page Rank Checker - Free ones available. - Website Visitor Statistics Tool - Free ones available. Effective Search Engine Optimization (SEO) begins with choosing the right Keyword Phrases to attract targeted prospects. Internet Home Business marketers who focus on the use of proper Keyword Phrases enjoy the most online marketing success.© GT Bulmer http://www.StarrBizz.comAs a continuing student of effective SEO practices, I try to spend some time each week learning and applying effective SEO techniques to enhance the visibility of my StarrBizz.com Internet Home Business opportunities website in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). The first thing I learned about SEO was that your keywords must be relevant to your website. Visitors who have found your site via a search engine are looking for something in particular and you don't want to disappoint or discourage them or you will quickly lose them. The second thing I learned was that you need to choose a keyword phrase that gets a reasonable number of searches each month, but not a phrase with too much competition. Your goal is to have your website appear on the first page of search results with a phrase that a good number of people are searching for, but if that phrase is too popular with other Internet Marketers, your chances of making the first page are reduced. It can be quite a balancing act to find the right keyword phrase, but tools and resources are available to help make the process easier. One popular keyword phrase tool is the free Google Adwords Keyword tool. This resource will help you get an indication of the number of searches there are each month for your desired keyword phrase, or for any alternative phrases you want to check. In fact, the tool will give you alternative phrases. My SEO mentor, Suzanne Morrison, says that depending on your market, she does not recommend choosing a main keyword phrase that drops below 2,000 searches a month. To test how much actual competition a particular keyword phrase has, you can type it into the search engine with quotes. Suzanne does not recommend using a keyword phrase where the number of competing sites is over 100,000. "Anything under 1,000 should be easily achievable," she adds, and "anything in between should be achievable with some work."After choosing your keyword phrase, type it into a search engine (no quotes) and check out the first-page competition. What do you think? Can you compete? Is it worth working towards using the keyword phrase you have selected? Other factors to be considered in your decision are the number of backlinks the top competitors have and how well they have optimized their websites using the keywords in their page title, page headline and throughout their web page; also, whether or not they are a popular authority site or a major company. One thing to note is, even if they have more backlinks than you, you may still be able to compete with them if they are lacking in their keyword phrase optimization. Here is another handy tool that I use regularly to check the number of backlinks my Internet home business opportunities site has and my competitors have: Marketleap.com Link Popularity CheckSearch Engine Optimization is an important practice for any online marketer looking to gain an advantage on the Internet. Proper research and use of Keyword Phrases is vital to your Search Engine Optimization efforts. When you apply effective SEO to improve your ranking in the SERPs you attract more traffic to your website and you enhance the profitability of your proven Internet home business ideas and opportunities. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a big thing for any Internet marketer trying to rank well in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). We all focus on positive SEO, but what of the Search Engine no-no's? © GT Bulmer http://www.StarrBizz.comLike many Internet marketers and home based Internet business enthusiasts, I work at improving my SEO knowledge and practices on a regular basis. Typically, I try to apply new, positive SEO techniques that I become aware of as quickly as I am able. But there are also a few SEO no-no's that a good webmaster needs to be aware of that could do their web site and SERP standings harm if they aren't careful. This is not a complete list, but it gives a few examples of things to watch for: - Keyword Spamming: Experienced SEO practitioners know the importance and value of selecting the proper keywords and then sprinkling those keywords throughout the text on the web page. However, loading the page or "stuffing" it with too many keywords might actually do more harm than good. Use a keyword density tool to adjust the number of keywords accordingly. - HTML Errors: A few HTML errors on your website won't be much of a problem, but too many errors on your web pages could prevent your site from being indexed. Use a website validation tool to check for HTML errors on your site. - Flash Intros: Search engines cannot understand flash technology, so while flash movies on your home page may enhance the look and image of your site, they may also prevent it from getting the search engine rank it deserves. A text-based home page is recommended. - Linking to Bad Neighborhoods: If you link to a site that has been penalized or banned by the search engines, your ranking can be negatively affected. Check the quality and appearance of a site first, before linking to it. Also, check to see if it is indexed in Google. Visit Google.com and enter "site:http://www.example.com" where example.com is the site that you want to check. - Spamming on Forums and Blogs: Forums are a great source for information and inspiration and they can be another way to get backlinks, via your forum signature. Commenting on blogs can also be a source of backlinks. However, whether in forums or in blog comments, it is important that you respond thoughtfully and in a way that supports or contributes to the topic. Otherwise, your comment may get deleted or you may develop a reputation as a spammer. If you are an Internet marketer or home based Internet business enthusiast interested in improving your Search Engine Results Page rankings, be sure to expand your SEO knowledge and practices, focus on the positives, but be aware of the SEO no-no's you need to watch out for.
