Niche Marketing is simply one aspect of Internet Marketing where you focus on a particular line of products or services, or on a particular group of prospects to market to.

When you are first starting out, it is good to identify a Niche Market to focus on to help establish your online identity. It is tempting to try to be everything to everybody, but if you narrow your focus, you stand to make greater progress, faster.

Typically, a Niche Market is one where there is less competition among marketers. In other words, fewer marketers are competing to sell the same products or services to the same targeted group of consumers.

Not all Niche Markets are productive or profitable. A smart Internet marketer will do a bit of market analysis to determine whether or not there is sufficient targeted web traffic within a certain Niche Market to make it worthwhile.

Of course, you will not truly know how productive a particular market is until you have your Niche Marketing website and other marketing tools in place. But, you can reduce the risk of disappointment by researching potential niche markets using resources like Google Trends and Yahoo Buzz.

Once you have identified a promising niche market, you will want to find a selection of products and services related to that niche that you can offer to your targeted prospects. Many Internet Marketers take advantage of affiliate programs that offer residual commissions on sales, or high commission percentages, perhaps in the range of 50% or more.

To find such products and services, or to find websites of other marketers targeting your chosen niche, you can do Internet keyword searches, then closely examine the top sites that show up in the search engine results. In some cases, you can become an affiliate for the same companies that the top sites use as their sources.

When you have your products chosen and your niche site set up and ready to go, there are several ways to advertise, promote and market your products and services:

- Internet Advertising

- Blogging

- Article Marketing

- List Building

- Pay Per Click

- Online Marketing Forums and Social Networking Sites

- Directory Listings

- Backlink and Joint Venture Strategies

These are some of the most common methods. You will learn other methods from marketers you come to know through various groups, associations, forums and social sites.

As you build your subscriber base and the popularity of your Niche Marketing website, and as your sales increase, you will be able to fine tune your product or service line, dropping slow items, adding new items. You will also be able to improve your marketing methods, spending more time and money on the methods that produce the best results.

Eventually, you will have your marketing for this particular Niche Market running smoothly and you can then work on identifying and developing additional Niche Marketing opportunities.

Depending on how experienced you are, you may find it beneficial to join a membership site that focuses on teaching members all the ins and outs of Affiliate Marketing and Niche Marketing.

The majority of people are followers. They seek, and respond well to, leadership. However, your level of success as a leader may depend on your style.

There is a difference between mentoring, leading and simply delegating. Each of these leadership styles can motivate people and get results, but for maximum effectiveness, the style you choose must fit the purpose.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Our chief want in life is somebody who will make us do what we can."

Like it or not, we as a people are typically "followers." Even if we don't like to admit it, we seek leadership. And that is okay. There are many benefits to "following the leader." It saves time and energy and can quite effectively accelerate our progress.

But there are times when we are called upon to take a leadership role. There are times when we desire to take a leadership role. When we do, if we want to win the respect of those we lead, we must first respect them.

- When you delegate, you are basically saying, "This is my project. This is my vision. You do it this way. It's my way or the highway."

Effective delegators are usually a little more respectful and less direct than that, but that is the essence of delegating. You might try to match talents to tasks, but the bottom line is just getting the thing done.

- Effective leaders take delegation a step further. They DO try to match talents to tasks and they look for ways to encourage those they lead so the followers experience a positive sense of achievement and value in their tasks.

With leadership, it's not just about getting things done, or just about a goal or a vision. It's also about building strength in an organization by building strength in the individual.

- Mentorship has a whole different focus than delegating or leading. The focus of mentorship is to identify what is best for the person being mentored, then direct that person's actions towards those activities. It's more than matching talents to tasks and more than building strength in the individual for the greater good of an organization or a cause.

Mentorship is all about the individual - the mentee. I have seen leaders and delegators who deceive even themselves into thinking they are "mentors" but when you examine their style, you see their efforts are focused on either personal goals, or on personal vision for the group or organization they represent or promote.

True mentorship involves putting aside all interests other than what best serves the mentee from the perspective of the mentee.

There is a time and a place for each leadership style, be it mentoring, leading or delegating. To respect all parties and to achieve the desired results, the proper leadership style must be matched up with the appropriate situation.

Last night, my spouse and I attended a "Gospel Elvis" concert and dinner. For the past 15 years, entertainer Leland Johnson has been transforming into the likeness of Elvis (the King of Rock and Roll), and travelling far and wide spreading the Gospel message of Jesus Christ (the spiritual King).

When you see Leland out of costume, he looks absolutely nothing like Elvis Presley. Once he dons the Elvis wig, dark glasses and custom designed Elvis suits, he begins to take on the King's persona. And when he speaks or sings, his vocal presentation completes the transformation. It is amazing.

It made me think about our efforts and intentions to be successful as home based web biz marketers:

==> Do we have our Elvis suits on?

Do we throw together a website, monetize it a bit, promote it with a blog, then hope it looks enough like a real business to attract customers and sales?

Or do we take our online web biz serious? Do we research it properly to transform it from marketing imposter, to respectable impersonator, to unique presence in its own right?

What an exciting year 2008 has been! I learned a great deal about marketing home based Internet business opportunities, developed some valuable insight and skills, helped a number of other enthusiastic marketers get started in the business, and am earning more now from my web biz marketing activities than I was a year ago!

And 2009 looks even more promising!

Equipped with new skills and a sharper marketing focus, I have some specific plans and goals for the coming year. First and foremost, I plan to research potential niche markets, select one to specialize in, then work at making it my most notable home based web biz success story yet!

A year ago, all I had to work with was hope and promise. This year, I can add knowledge, confidence and certainty to the mix.

One of the key reasons I am so confident is because of my association with the PIPS Power Group (PPG) and the six mentors who personally guide each of the PPG members. It's one thing to be given information and resources to build your web biz. It's quite another to be taken by the hand and shown exactly how to apply the info and tools for home based Internet business success. There is nothing like it to boost your confidence.

In a few days, the PPG mentors will launch a new membership site: the Niche Power Group (NPG) which I wrote about in my previous Web Bizz Blog post. For those who take full advantage of the NPG and the expertise of the six mentors, they will see their home business efforts accelerate in 2009.

I am extremely excited about what this will mean for my home based Internet business and I can't wait to get started!

Of course, I have the same time limitations as many other web biz marketers have. I still have all my other Internet business activities to tend to. But a home based business is like any other business: it is always in a state of transition from what it is today to what you envision it to be tomorrow. They say you can never stand still. If you are not moving forward, you are moving backward.

I am moving forward into 2009 with plans for further business development and accelerated prosperity. My hope is that you are anticipating the same, and I send web biz greetings for good health, much happiness and great success in your Internet marketing activities!
