One of the resources is the Keyword Rank Checker. This is an excellent tool to check your search engine position ranking in the major search engines for any keyword. This tool also produces an advanced report that includes related keywords. The Keyword Rank Checker is easy to use and the results are produced very quickly. All you do is key in the keyword or keyword phrase you want to check, plus the domain ( www.StarrBizz.com for example), a competitor's domain if you want (it is optional), and a verification or access code.  I entered one of my top keyword phrases - web biz opportunities - and was very pleased with the (expected) results! The phrase ranked #1 in Google, #1 in Yahoo! and ...what? Only #5 in Bing?Actually, when I looked at the Bing-specific report, while it did show one of my web biz blog posts in the fifth position, I was happy to discover that the #1 ranking website turned out to be ( drum roll) www.StarrBizz.com! I didn't check, yet, to see why that didn't show up in the condensed report, but I'm not complaining. The report also lists a series of related keywords and when you click on any of them, it brings up a new Keyword Rank report showing where your website sits with the selected keyword. Once again, it is very quick, very informative ... and extremely interesting. Give it a try. It's free. Keywords and keyword phrases are the words that people enter into an Internet search engine to help find what they are looking for online. The search engine then returns a list of websites that contain the keyword or phrase that has been entered. Your aim is to get your web biz website on the first page of the search results because most people click only on a few links on the first page and seldom look any further. The higher search engine rank you can achieve, the better. Web biz sites that have been effectively optimized for particular keyword phrases stand a better chance of showing up on the first page of the search results. There are several steps to effective search engine optimization (SEO). Keyword research is the first step. After selecting a keyword phrase that is relevant to your market and your site and that has a good number of searches each month, type it into the Google search engine and check out the sites that are returned on the first page of the results. Use the MarketLeap.com Link Popularity Checker to check how many backlinks your site has compared to what the leading websites have. Can you compete? Will you be able to build up enough web biz backlinks to make a run for that first page search engine rank? How well optimized are the leading websites? Have they used their keywords in the page title, the page headline and throughout the text of the site? Can you do better in this area? Attention to these details when doing your keyword research will help you make better choices. As mentioned, there is more to search engine optimization than keyword research, but keyword research definitely needs to be your starting point. If you hope to achieve higher search engine rank, this is a step that you must pay particular attention to. Effective Search Engine Optimization (SEO) begins with choosing the right Keyword Phrases to attract targeted prospects. The first thing I learned about SEO was that your keywords must be relevant to your website. Visitors who have found your site via a search engine are looking for something in particular and you don't want to disappoint or discourage them or you will quickly lose them. The second thing I learned was that you need to choose a keyword phrase that gets a reasonable number of searches each month, but not a phrase with too much competition. Your goal is to have your website appear on the first page of search results with a phrase that a good number of people are searching for, but if that phrase is too popular with other Internet Marketers, your chances of making the first page are reduced. It can be quite a balancing act to find the right keyword phrase, but tools and resources are available to help make the process easier. One popular keyword phrase tool is the free Google Adwords Keyword tool. This resource will help you get an indication of the number of searches there are each month for your desired keyword phrase, or for any alternative phrases you want to check. In fact, the tool will give you alternative phrases. My SEO mentor, Suzanne Morrison, says that depending on your market, she does not recommend choosing a main keyword phrase that drops below 2,000 searches a month. To test how much actual competition a particular keyword phrase has, you can type it into the search engine with quotes. Suzanne does not recommend using a keyword phrase where the number of competing sites is over 100,000. "Anything under 1,000 should be easily achievable," she adds, and "anything in between should be achievable with some work."After choosing your keyword phrase, type it into a search engine (no quotes) and check out the first-page competition. What do you think? Can you compete? Is it worth working towards using the keyword phrase you have selected? Other factors to be considered in your decision are the number of backlinks the top competitors have and how well they have optimized their websites using the keywords in their page title, page headline and throughout their web page; also, whether or not they are a popular authority site or a major company. One thing to note is, even if they have more backlinks than you, you may still be able to compete with them if they are lacking in their keyword phrase optimization.
