I am not typically one to do things "the easy way," although I do start out looking for the easy way to do things. But I always encounter alternatives, and alternatives quite often lead a person on to unexpected tangents.

Such was the case when I recently decided to move my web hosting to a new service that provides a range of additional features and a great deal more potential for the future of my online business. Instead of going with a simple, straight across web hosting package, I chose a more advanced package that gives me greater administrative control plus a more dependable, and faster, server - a virtual private server (VPS), in fact.

Today, I am testing some of the new settings for this Web Bizz Blog. If you are reading this, it worked!

I've also noticed a problem with some of the links for products and services I promote. At the moment, any link that has "starrbizz.com/recommends/(anything)" in it is not working. It has something to do with the third party software I had been using to create those links. As soon as I can find the solution, I'll get all those links back up and running.

For now, most everything else seems to work fine, with many thanks and much credit to my tech mentor, Jeffery, and one of my key marketing mentors, Suzanne, both from the mentorship team at the Affiliate Power Group. Acknowledgement must also go to tech support at HostGator who readily offered insight and assistance along the way.

Once I work these things through, I will have some new ideas and web biz opportunities to introduce.

People are funny. We like familiar patterns and we resist change, but in reality, whether we admit it or not, we thrive on change. We tend to become bored and listless when things stay the same for too long. Change gets our attention. It excites us!

It's a new year and I am planning some changes for my StarrBizz.com site. Some of the changes will require that I "do things differently" and possibly learn some new skills. The process is sure to test the limits of my patience.

However, it's all for the good as change is a valuable part of our existence. In fact, I believe it was the French author, Francois de la Rochefoucauld who coined the phrase, "The only thing constant in life is change."

That being the case, we would do well to simply resign ourselves to the inevitable. If we learn to embrace change, we will certainly be happier and come out stronger.

Ask me how I feel about that in a couple of days! lol

Anyway, here we go. I'll post this notice then I'll start the process that may or may not interrupt the StarrBizz website for a short period of time. As mentioned, it could happen sometime over the next few days. Once we're over the hump, I'll be back here to post an update!

Early this century, before I became actively involved online, I would hear people saying how you can make money online with something called "Affiliate Marketing." I didn't know anything about it, other than companies would allow you to place their banners on your website and when your visitors clicked the banner and purchased something, you would earn a commission.

A few years later, I upgraded my computer hardware and my knowledge of Internet Marketing and became active as an Affiliate Marketer. And then I discovered one of the unfortunate realities of marketing on the Internet: online success takes time and effort just like any other business or entrepreneurial endeavour! In the previous Web Bizz Blog post, I listed five interesting ways to use your web biz autoresponder. Today, I'll just get right to it and give you a few more handy autoresponder tips.

1) Publish testimonials and endorsements that you receive from satisfied customers. Many prospects respond well to positive comments from other happy customers. One recommendation: make sure the testimonials and endorsements are true and verifiable. It's YOUR reputation on the line.

2) Publish a thorough list of Frequently Asked Questions. Keep a record of all questions you have received from prospects and customers and all answers you have provided. Add to this list any additional questions and answers regarding your services that prospects or subscribers may potentially be interested in.

3) Publish a complete price list of all the products and services that you offer. You could also include order forms, product descriptions and other sales material.

4) Publish any terms and conditions related to your services or business transactions. You could include return and refund policies and after sales service information.

5) Publish information and articles from the inner pages of your website in autoresponder format. Visitors may not read every page on your site. Also, in autoresponder format, they can easily print out desired pages for reading when offline.

Obviously, not every idea presented here will be suitable for or appeal to every web biz marketer. I present these tips for your consideration and enlightenment only. You must choose what is workable for you and your Internet home business.

I just think it is helpful to read about more autoresponder tips for email marketing so that you can find the ideas and inspiration necessary to advance your marketing business.

1. Business Cards: The popularity of business cards remains because they are small, easy to carry around, easy to hand out and they don't cost much to produce. Print them with your website address and other business information. Some marketers print an advertisement on the reverse side.

2. Flyers: Again, flyers are inexpensive and easy for you to take with you to hand out or post on bulletin boards and wherever else you are authorized to place them. Include your website address, business info and other brief, appealing information about your product or website.

3. Pens: Have some pens imprinted with your website address and other business information, then give them to people or leave them behind in the post office, banks, stores and other places where people might use them to sign receipts or other papers.

4. Mugs: Mugs imprinted with your website address and business information can be used when you have company over, or you can give them away as gifts to family, friends and even to local business groups that meet regularly.

5. Duffle Bags: Imprint your website address and business info on a duffle bag?? Why not? I have a similar bag I received from a local company and every time I use it, not only do I think favourably of the company, but other people also take notice of the company's information. Give your imprinted duffle bags to family and friends to create more exposure for your web biz.

There's nothing new about these ideas, but as simple and basic as they are, it's surprising that more home based Internet business marketers don't take advantage of them.

Consider these ways to promote your web biz while doing non-business tasks offline:

1. T-shirts: It doesn't cost a lot to get small batches of t-shirts imprinted these days. Have some t-shirts printed up with your website and other business information. Give the shirts out to family, friends and others in your community.

2. Ball Caps: Same thing goes for ball caps. Get a bunch made up with your web address and other info and hand them out. People will be happy to wear the caps because they are both fun and functional.

3. Jackets: Since we're talking about apparel, why not get some jackets printed for family members and close friends? When it gets too cold for t-shirts, you can wear jackets!

4. Magnetic Signs: How about magnetic signs with your website and business info? Place them on your vehicle door or roof when travelling. The added bonus is their portability; easily switch to whatever vehicle you happen to be using ... even a relative's!

5. Bumper Stickers: Bumper stickers are still popular and they do get noticed. Print some with your website and other business information and away you go.

Forum marketing, as with any form of social networking, is not always a quick way to gain recognition and get customers. It takes time to establish your presence, build relationships and develop the community's confidence in you as a preferred supplier. But it is a good way - no, a GREAT way to expand your knowledge base, become familiar with the market and learn effective marketing techniques and practices.

Every forum is different. They each have their own personality and their own unique focus on business and marketing. I like being a member of several forums for the variety; I enjoy them for their various qualities and characteristics.

There are so many online tools and resources you can use to help build your home based business. While building your business, don't ignore the other important aspect of marketing: tracking your results. Remember, when you work from home, you need web biz tracking tools.

You can find a tool or a resource for pretty much anything on the Internet. Once you get a little experience with your Internet based home business, you will begin to recognize which resources are beneficial and where to find them.

Most of the online marketing tools that I use have been the result of recommendations by marketing friends and associates. Here are a few that I use for tracking various aspects of my web biz. Each of them reveals some very interesting details that can help you fine tune and further improve your Internet business. These ones are free.

Free Web Biz Tracking Tools

* StatCounter.com: This was the first tracking resource I installed on my website. Recommended by my marketing mentors, StatCounter provides real-time detailed web statistics. You will be able to analyze and monitor all the visitors to your website. Discover your popular pages, entry pages, exit pages, where visitors came from, keyword analysis, visitor lengths and much more.

* Google AdSense: When you install Google AdSense on your web biz content pages, targeted Google ads will be displayed and you will earn revenue from valid clicks or impressions. When you log in to your AdSense account, you can get a variety of insightful reports including the number of AdSense page impressions, clicks, earnings and more. AdSense also gives you access to a variety of other resources and site diagnostic tools.

* Google Analytics: Similar to StatCounter, Google Analytics gives you "rich insights into your website traffic and marketing effectiveness." Examine visitor statistics, pageviews, pages per visit, bounce rate, average time on site and more.

* Google Webmaster Tools: This is the newest work from home web biz tracking tool I have installed on my website. Referred to me by Evan Carmichael of EvanCarmichael.com, the primary aim of Google Webmaster Tools is to improve your site's visibility in Google search results. This resource provides detailed reports that give you Google's view of your site and allows you to diagnose problems. You will also get comprehensive details about internal and external links to your site, and you can find out which search queries drive traffic to your site - see exactly how users arrive there.

I am pleased that Evan encouraged me to install Google Webmaster Tools. The internal and external links reports alone are eye-opening and extremely beneficial to know about.

As mentioned earlier, there are many online resources available to help you to both build your home based web biz and track the activity on your web pages. With a little experience and research, you will discover a wide variety of helpful tools.

I posted this list here today because I know that when you work from home, you need web biz tracking tools and I personally use these resources and consider them to be beneficial.

I was a J.O.B. slave for years until one day I woke up and said, "Why am I working for other people when I have so many of my own aspirations and unfulfilled dreams?" I broke free and now I work from home.

Everybody has a story and here is mine in a nutshell. I was inspired to post this in my web biz blog after writing something similar in the Real Work at Home Jobs Forum where I am an active member.

A few years ago I came to my senses, made some changes and managed to break free from the ridiculous J.O.B. cycle where all you are doing is helping someone else fulfil their dreams and prepare for their comfortable retirement. I have to wonder what job slaves think when they get to the end of their "useful" years and realize they've done little to pursue their own dreams?

I didn't want to find myself in that second-guessing, self-doubting situation, so I chose to quit my J.O.B. and work from home, doing something I want to do and enjoy doing. I am now a home based freelance writer and aspiring Internet Marketer.

Don't get me wrong. I don't completely regret the years I spent working for other people. It was all great experience.

Some of my "day jobs" were like getting paid to go to school. You know, on-the-job training with pay. The skills and professional business and service attitudes I developed helped me become a better person; more confident, more knowledgeable, more aware of what I wanted from life on a personal basis.

However, I wanted more from life than just working for someone else. I want to someday look back with satisfaction at things I achieved for my own benefit.

Like writing and Internet Marketing. These were natural choices for me.

I've always had an interest in writing, but never really worked at developing the skill until I landed a newspaper job several years ago. The few years I worked there proved to be the best educational investment in my future that I ever made.

Likewise, I've always been interested in home based marketing, promotion and selling. Although I did dabble in home based business here and there over the years while working at day jobs, I never truly focused on developing the interest.

Until one day when something finally clicked and I quit the job I had at the time and decided to focus on freelance writing and Internet Marketing while working from home.

I have certain income goals that I have not yet reached, but they will come in time. Since I work from home, I can go at my own pace and truly, truly take time to enjoy the journey. That is one of the greatest benefits of working for yourself.

I am much happier now and SO much more relaxed. In fact, when I had a J.O.B., it was a chore dragging myself out of bed every morning. Now, I jump out of bed early every morning to work on writing and marketing, and after spending time each evening with my spouse, I will often stay up until midnight or 1am continuing to work on my home biz. It's great!

I know it's not easy for everybody to up and quit their job and strike out on their own. Some may have to work at it step by step on a part time basis. Nothing wrong with that at all, as long as you remain focused and determined.

One of my favourite sayings is, "It takes courage to push yourself to places that you have never been before... to test your limits... to break through barriers."

Do you have unfulfilled dreams and aspirations like I did? For those who have the ability and the courage to break through their barriers, I say, "Forget the J.O.B. - Work from home!"
