Active web biz marketers are well aware of these two main services for free blog hosting, but when considering Blogger vs. WordPress, which is best?© GT Bulmer Web Biz Opportunities - StarrBizz.comUltimately, the answer to that question comes down to your individual needs and preferences. Each of these two popular blogging platforms offers particular benefits and features, and each can serve your blogging needs quite effectively. In fact, many of my web biz marketing friends and associates host blogs on both services in order to take advantage of the best of both worlds. Over the past week or so several of us have been discussing this topic in the Entrepreneur Forums at EvanCarmichael.com. Guests are welcome to browse the topic at Poll: Blogger or WordPress Blog?At present, I use the Blogger.com service because it was recommended when I first started blogging and it is what I am accustomed to. The service is free and you can either move the hosting to your own server, as I have done, or you can leave the hosting with Blogger.com. One advantage of hosting it on your own website is that it gives you more freedom in what you choose to post in your blog articles and on your blog template page. If you leave your blog hosting with Blogger.com, you must be careful to obey their Terms of Service (TOS) or risk having your Blogger account closed without warning. The same holds true for the WordPress.com service. Now, back to the question of Blogger vs. WordPress, which is better? Here are a few comments from the discussion in the Entrepreneur Forums topic thread: Alan Mater said: "WordPress is simply way ahead of the game. I'll admit it's more complicated than Blogger, but it's worth it. When I started my new niche site, I used WordPress. Had it up and running in about a minute or less thanks to Fantastico." Alan lists some of the WordPress advantages as being the ease of use and customization, plugins readily available, SEO benefits and "do follow" capability. David Hurley said: "I use both. I love how easy it is to set up a Blogger blog, and I like its close relationship to Google. I'm setting up a new site now with what will be a fairly stable html site and Blogger blog which will serve as the main article directory and the dynamic part of the whole site. I would recommend Blogger to newbies simply because it is so quick and easy to set up." Tanny Lahav said: "I own one WordPress blog and several Blogger blogs. Both services have their advantages and disadvantages. I love working with both of them. I recommend both, depending on your needs and abilities to learn new stuff." Tim Stokes said: "When I joined the PPG (PIPS Power Group) last year and found out how important blogging was, I had the free WordPress blog installed for me and I haven't looked back since. I absolutely love it." Michelle Jayes said: "Like Tim, I got the free WordPress blog installed for me and must admit that I love it." Trent Brownrigg said: "They both have advantages and disadvantages. Blogger is easier to get set up and I think it is better if you are building niche blogs, or a blog just for the purpose of posting content to rank in the search engines. I think WordPress is better for flagship blogs and other blogs that you want to look good and have a lot of functionality." These are just a few highlights from the Poll: Blogger or WordPress Blog? forum topic at EvanCarmichael.com. Visit the forum for more comments and insight. Feel welcome to participate in the discussion: the more the merrier! And if you still find yourself asking the question, "Blogger vs. WordPress, which is better?" the best thing to do is first, visit several blogs being hosted on each platform to get a sense of their look and feel; and second, visit the Blogger.com and WordPress.com sites to review each of their benefits and features. From there, all I can say is, Happy Blogging! Debate amongst home based web biz marketers continues over the duplicate content issue. My Internet Marketing friend, Peter Lee, recently wrote about using duplicate content on blogs.© GT Bulmer http://www.StarrBizz.comPeter Lee, in his Work From Home Business Blog post, The Truth About Using Duplicate Content On Your Blogs, offers some additional information and insight into this hotly debated issue. Peter notes first that " Duplicate content exists when you have more than one version of the same article or post on your site, or you used the same article to submit to numerous article directories." Some home based Internet marketers are concerned that they might get hit with a "Google Penalty" or a "Google Ban" for inappropriate use of duplicate content. In his blog post, Peter explains that a Google Penalty is where a penalized site no longer ranks for its own keywords. A banned site is more serious. Banned sites no longer get indexed by Google. Wanting to test the duplicate content waters, Peter started a new blog using articles also submitted to a popular online article directory. He did make some minor changes to the articles before posting them, including a rewrite of the first and last paragraphs. The blog now has a PageRank of 1 and he is waiting to see if it improves to PR2 in the next PageRank update. To help present the pros and cons and current thinking of the duplicate content issue, Peter includes quotes from several fellow home biz marketers. He also highlights one marketer's dilemma relating to the use of "original content" versus "rehashed or duplicate content." I always enjoy Peter's insightful blog posts highlighting various aspects of online marketing. I recommend you read The Truth About Using Duplicate Content On Your Blogs to fill in the blanks that I have not included in today's Web Bizz Blog post. Have you ever wanted to leave a comment on an Internet Home Business marketing blog like this one, but couldn't find the Post a Comment link to do it? I've been there!© GT Bulmer http://www.StarrBizz.comBlogging is great, especially for bloggers like me who value the power of communication and enjoy writing about Internet home business ideas and opportunities. One added benefit to blogging is the feedback you can get from visitors to your blog page. However, not all blog pages and blog platforms are the same and on some of them, the Post a Comment link or button is not readily apparent. The Post a Comment link on my blog is not on my blog home page. To find the Comment link, visitors first need to click on the title of the blog post, then scroll to the bottom of the post to find the Post a Comment link. That link will take them to the comment dialog box. It's so simple when you know how. The funny thing is, I posted blogs here for months before I found that out for myself - lol! I looked everywhere and tried everything, but could not find any Post a Comment link or button on my own pre-formatted blog. My blog is a Blogger.com blog which I host on my own StarrBizz.com server. If instructions or information referring to where or how to find the Post a Comment link is in my Blogger.com back office, I have been unable to find it. However, one day in one of the popular online marketing forums in which I participate, a forum member asked how to post a comment and a knowledgeable fellow member gave the answer ... and eureka! I became one of the enlightened! Since then, I make a habit of posting comments on Internet home business marketing blogs that I especially enjoy. After all, bloggers are people too, and they do appreciate a little love, a little feedback, a little encouragement from time-to-time. Anytime you feel inclined to post a comment or offer constructive feedback on any of my blog posts, please feel welcome to do so! Again, it is simple: * To Post a Comment, first click on the blog title, then look down the page to find the Post a Comment link. Click it and a dialog box will open for you to post your comment. Blogging is definitely a great way of communicating and sharing ideas and information. The experience becomes interactive for visitors when they Post a Comment with constructive feedback or encouragement. When you Post a Comment, especially a positive one, I can tell you it just warms the heart of this dedicated blogger and enthusiastic Internet Home Business marketer. Go for it!
