The Only Thing Constant in Life is Change

I am planning some changes for the StarrBizz.com site and sometime over the next few days, the site might be down or acting strange. If you have trouble with it, that's the reason why.

People are funny. We like familiar patterns and we resist change, but in reality, whether we admit it or not, we thrive on change. We tend to become bored and listless when things stay the same for too long. Change gets our attention. It excites us!

It's a new year and I am planning some changes for my StarrBizz.com site. Some of the changes will require that I "do things differently" and possibly learn some new skills. The process is sure to test the limits of my patience.

However, it's all for the good as change is a valuable part of our existence. In fact, I believe it was the French author, Francois de la Rochefoucauld who coined the phrase, "The only thing constant in life is change."

That being the case, we would do well to simply resign ourselves to the inevitable. If we learn to embrace change, we will certainly be happier and come out stronger.

Ask me how I feel about that in a couple of days! lol

Anyway, here we go. I'll post this notice then I'll start the process that may or may not interrupt the StarrBizz website for a short period of time. As mentioned, it could happen sometime over the next few days. Once we're over the hump, I'll be back here to post an update!

Personal success begins with a desire for achievement, an attitude of hopeful expectation and a willingness to put your shoulder to the wheel. It also helps if you have a proven guide or plan. That's where the Laws of Success come in.

Given enough time, anybody can become successful at anything. The problem is most people lack either the will or the ability to focus on the goal long enough. That's why so few succeed in a big way and so many struggle so terribly.

I remember hearing a story related by Earl Nightingale years ago of a music fan that approached a famous pianist after a concert and said, "I'd give anything to play as you do." The pianist responded, saying, "Except 20 years and seven hours a day."

Today, instead of putting in the time necessary to develop our skill, we look for the "quick fix" to personal and business success. The sad thing is, in this quest for the "Holy Grail" of success, much valuable time is wasted jumping from concept to concept. A person's time would be better spent simply focusing on just one concept until it is mastered.

The good news is, whatever path that is followed to attain success, there are some established guidelines that can help accelerate one's progress.

In this web biz blog post, I will highlight five of the "Laws of Success" described by Brian Tracy in his audio program, The Universal Laws of Success and Achievement. The pocket guide that comes with this program breaks it down into 12 sections, each focusing on a series of specific laws relative to the particular section. In total, the guide lists more than 150 individual laws of success and achievement.

The first section is titled "The Laws of Success" and I will list five laws out of the 15 included in this category.

Law of Cause and Effect: "This is an orderly universe," says Brian. "There are no accidents. Everything happens for a reason. For every effect, there is a cause or set of causes."

Law of Mind: "Thoughts objectify themselves. You become what you think about."

Law of Correspondence: Brian explains that your outer life will mirror your inner life. "There is a direct correspondence between your experiences and your thoughts and attitudes," he says.

Law of Habit: "Virtually all we do is automatic, the result of habit," notes Brian. "Habits that move us away from our goals must be changed."

Law of Change: Brian advises that all things are changing; nothing is fixed. "If you don't take advantage of change," he cautions, "you'll be the victim of change."

While the pocket guide is handy for quick reference, it is only the tip of the iceberg compared to the detail and personal insight Brian provides in the audio program. Students of personal development will be greatly inspired, enriched and motivated by listening to The Universal Laws of Success and Achievement.

As I write this, we are just weeks away from the New Year. For many, this is a time of introspection where we evaluate the progress we have made over the past year and consider our options for improvement and advancement in the coming year.

Commitment to Personal Development in 2010

We all have hopes, dreams and aspirations to succeed. The one quality that will separate those who achieve from those who do not is their level of commitment to personal development in 2010.

Everybody talks about personal development. Everybody recognizes the value of continually expanding their knowledge base and building their personal skills and abilities. But not everybody is truly committed to the process. Some simply pay "lip service" to the concept.

That is the difference between achievers and non-achievers: some people dream of worthy accomplishments, while others stay awake and achieve them.

If you are looking ahead to 2010 and have aspirations to achieve more personally and financially than you have ever achieved in the past, you are going to have to find ways to do the things you have been doing either better, or in a different, more productive way.

Early this century, before I became actively involved online, I would hear people saying how you can make money online with something called "Affiliate Marketing." I didn't know anything about it, other than companies would allow you to place their banners on your website and when your visitors clicked the banner and purchased something, you would earn a commission.

A few years later, I upgraded my computer hardware and my knowledge of Internet Marketing and became active as an Affiliate Marketer. Fortunately, I had learned one extremely valuable "life lesson" quite a number of years ago. Pop-over Problem Solved!

I don't like problems. Yes, I agree. Problems can be a good thing. They challenge us to stretch our thinking and our abilities and if we have the fortitude to persevere, we come out the other side stronger and wiser.

But I still don't like problems! lol

Yesterday, I made a number of changes to the StarrBizz.com homepage including posting a new feature article and a few new Web Bizz Blog highlights. I didn't finish everything until late in the evening, so I was in a hurry to upload my revised Index file to my server and post the changes to the Internet.

I always check new pages in a web browser after I upload them, and I did that with the StarrBizz homepage. I noticed a wee problem when the page loaded, but being late in the evening, I passed it off as being a minor browser glitch and expected that it would correct itself.

... However, first thing this morning, upon opening the StarrBizz homepage in my browser, I was alarmed to discover that the glitch was still there! If any of my visitors experienced this problem through that 12 hour period, please accept my apology.

The problem had to do with the pop-over or drop-down box that appears when you open the StarrBizz.com page. This box promotes the bonuses you get when you sign up for my web biz newsletter. When it's working properly, the box includes a "Close" link right at the top allowing visitors to get rid of it quickly and easily.

This morning, I discovered that the "Close" link was missing from the box! That meant visitors could not close the box ... and if you are like me, you aren't real happy about those pop-overs and drop-downs to begin with. A box that won't close does nothing positive for the reputation of a website, I know.

Looking around the web page, I noticed that the "Close" link was actually misplaced: it was up in the top, left corner of the web page in a spot visitors may not think to look.

Not being a techie or a master at HTML, I wondered what to do?

What I did was open the Index file for that page into an HTML editor so I could examine the code for anomalies. Not recognizing any, I then opened a previously saved older version of the Index file and compared the code for the drop-down box in the two files.

Ah ha! What I discovered was that the code in the offending file had somehow been rearranged. A couple lines of code were in a different spot.

So, I changed the code to match that of the older file and tested the page. Eureka! It worked. I quickly uploaded the corrected file to my server and republished to the Net and all was well once again. Thank goodness.

However, once question still remained: how did that lit bit of code get moved around?

I think I know what happened: bad mouse. Bad, bad mouse.

I've been having trouble with my computer mouse lately. It's getting old and it seems like it sometimes double-clicks when it should only be a single-click. That causes problems when I'm copying and pasting ... which I do a lot when I'm working on text and HTML in web pages. I must have inadvertently highlighted and moved that drop-down box code without realizing it.

It's either that ... or gremlins.

Either way, at least I got my pop-over problem solved. Guess I'd better start shopping for a new mouse.

In the previous Web Bizz Blog post, I listed five interesting ways to use your web biz autoresponder. Today, I'll just get right to it and give you a few more handy autoresponder tips.

1) Publish testimonials and endorsements that you receive from satisfied customers. Many prospects respond well to positive comments from other happy customers. One recommendation: make sure the testimonials and endorsements are true and verifiable. It's YOUR reputation on the line.

2) Publish a thorough list of Frequently Asked Questions. Keep a record of all questions you have received from prospects and customers and all answers you have provided. Add to this list any additional questions and answers regarding your services that prospects or subscribers may potentially be interested in.

3) Publish a complete price list of all the products and services that you offer. You could also include order forms, product descriptions and other sales material.

4) Publish any terms and conditions related to your services or business transactions. You could include return and refund policies and after sales service information.

5) Publish information and articles from the inner pages of your website in autoresponder format. Visitors may not read every page on your site. Also, in autoresponder format, they can easily print out desired pages for reading when offline.

Obviously, not every idea presented here will be suitable for or appeal to every web biz marketer. I present these tips for your consideration and enlightenment only. You must choose what is workable for you and your Internet home business.

That's all great advice, but what exactly do you SEND to your subscribers once you have them on your list?

Experienced Internet Marketers have this figured out but newcomers to the business are sometimes left wondering what the next step is. Here are a few innovative ways to use your web biz autoresponder:

1) First and foremost, use your autoresponder to collect leads. Leads are the people who have shown an interest in the types of things you have to offer. Your autoresponder will collect and archive their names and email addresses. You entice them to opt in to your list by offering a free newsletter, e-marketing course, series of niche-related reports or whatever you choose.

2) You might use the niche-related reports as the incentive to get them signed up in the first place, or if they are signing up for some other benefit, then you can mix mailings of reports in with the regular autoresponder mailings. The reports should be related to the theme of your website.

3) Send periodic customer satisfaction surveys through your autoresponder. Subscribers who respond to the surveys will provide you with valuable information and insight that will help you improve your website and your service.

4) Publish eBooks in autoresponder format. If you have free eBooks that you give away, or if you can find sources online where you can get free eBooks related to the theme of your website, send them through your autoresponder.

5) Do you have some past blog posts that you are especially proud of, or that contain highly relative information of interest to your subscribers? Tidy up the posts if necessary and send them as part of your autoresponder series.

As mentioned earlier, the purpose of your autoresponder is to archive the names and emails of subscribers and to send follow-up messages to them. The reason you do this is so you can include ads and promotional messages selling your web biz products, services and programs.

You don't want to send a steady stream of ads and promos or you will risk losing the attention and the confidence of your prospect, so it is important to send non-promotional and informative material more often than the promotional material.
