This Web Bizz Blog post follows the post from yesterday. Today, I will just offer some Internet Marketing food for thought.

Yesterday, I suggested that a good starting point to determine the best web biz opportunities to suit your needs and interests is to take a good look at your goals, abilities and expectations.

Goals

What do you really want from your home based Internet business? Obviously, a dependable and steady stream of independent income, plus the time freedom to enjoy it; but that answer is fairly nebulous. It does not give a person a clear target, and without a clear target, it is very difficult to establish an effective game plan, or to be able to measure any form of progress.

Here is what you can do to set a specific income goal:

Determine the specific amount of monthly income you need to cover all living and business expenses plus provide a comfortable lifestyle and build an investment or retirement fund. You will have to base this on your current living expenses and a calculated estimate of your desired "lifestyle improvements."

Whatever that monthly amount is, divide it by 160. This will tell you how much you will need to earn each hour if you were to work 40 hours per week, four weeks a month. Whatever that hourly figure is, that now becomes your initial target. You now know the absolute minimum you need to make your home based web biz work.

The next step in creating a specific focus is to look at the products or services you may potentially sell to earn the income you need. Consider the amount of profit you would receive per sale. How many sales an hour, or how many sales a day would you need to generate your necessary hourly average? This will give you a specific, targeted sales figure.

Backing it up further, how much marketing, promotion and advertising will it take to generate that number of sales each day? Do you have enough faith and determination to do what you will have to do, day in and day out, to keep those sales flowing?

Of course, there's much more to the marketing issue than mentioned here, but that is an example of how to refine your goals down to a specific focus. If you need two sales an hour, what's it going to take to get those two sales each hour?

Abilities

What talents, abilities and experiences do you bring to your potential home based web biz opportunity? What are your strengths?

What type of product or service or opportunity might best fit your interests and abilities? An experienced, successful web biz marketer might convince you that his product or service or niche is the best to get into, but will it be right for you?

If the opportunity requires a certain skill that you don't presently have, will you have the interest and commitment to learn that skill and practice with it as long as it takes to get good enough at it to start making sales?

Maybe there is a different opportunity better suited to skills and experiences you already have?

Expectations

Goals and abilities come from within, but expectations are more externally influenced. You must base your expectations on information provided by others through websites, sales pages, articles, blogs and other sources of reference and recommendation. Do your due diligence.

Based on what you know about the web biz opportunity being considered, will it live up to your expectations? Can the owner, or provider, or sponsor deliver on what is being promised? If the promises are realistic, it may be worth considering. If the promises are questionable, the opportunity may not be right for you.

Ultimately, it is still a judgement call on your part, but if you do your part well, it will be an educated judgement call.

As mentioned yesterday, just because successful marketers promote "proven home based web biz opportunities" it doesn't automatically mean that your Internet Marketing success is guaranteed. Always research the opportunity and examine your goals, abilities and expectations before making any decisions.
