This is a spark of an idea I picked up while reading through one edition of the free StarrBizz.com Internet Home Business Tips newsletters I send out to my subscribers.

It's a pretty simple idea ... and that's great because that means it is easy to do.

Consider this: instead of marketing your website as a web site why not market it as a free web book? See, isn't that a novel idea?

Here's what you do:

First, think of reading a book, the act of flipping through the pages.

Next, design your web pages in book style:

- Title page

- Table of Contents

- Chapters

Each "chapter" can follow a particular web biz marketing theme. Additional pages within a chapter can follow a particular sub-theme. You can select whatever chapters and themes you want: it's your web book! Be creative.

Since the purpose of your website is to market your home based Internet business ideas and opportunities, one design suggestion is to place your product or service ads or banners at the top of each web page.

When you advertise and promote your website, you can now market it as a Free Web Book! If you can develop the site with a "web biz marketing training guide" theme, all the better.

Unless you have the technical design skills to do it, there is no need to get overly complex with the page design of your website: keep it simple.

I was reviewing some information today in one of the free Internet Home Business Tips newsletters I send out to my subscribers and one little Internet advertising idea caught my eye: cataloging your products or services in e-book form.

And it's not just the unique presentation method that offers possibilities, but the ways you can enlist other Internet Marketers to help you distribute the e-books.

Create the Catalog

The idea is simple and basic: create a listing of your products and services, complete with brief descriptions, important details, prices and links to sales or information pages. Depending on the e-book software you use, include photos or graphics where applicable.

Use Internet advertising to promote the catalog any way you can. Give it away free to your website visitors. Add a promo for the catalog to the auto responder series you send to your existing subscribers or email list.

Expand Your Distribution

Here's where you and other non-competing Internet Marketers can leverage your circles of influence for mutual benefit and potential profit.

Approach marketers and website owners that aren't in direct competition to you and ask if they would like to include their products and services in the catalog at no cost. In return, ask them to either link to your website or run a promotional ad or banner on their site for a specified period of time.

However, when I write about branding in relation to home based Internet business ideas and opportunities I like to bring it down to a more personal level.

Branding to me simply means creating an image or reputation online as a respected source for information, resources and products in a chosen marketing niche. In that way, the brand or perceived image you create for your home based Internet business is the key to your web biz success.

Traditionally, a brand is thought of as being a specific product or logo or other graphic image that sets one business or person apart from another.

But a brand can also be represented by personality, practices and standards of quality. For example, when a business person becomes known and recognized as a professional, or as an expert in their field or as a preferred source, that is branding.

When you are building your brand for web biz success, what you are trying to do is first, establish your presence - that is, get your home based internet business onto the radar of your targeted prospects; and second, increase your perceived value to your prospective customers.

That's the two keys right there: awareness and value. You want your prospects to know about you and to consider you the first choice and best choice to service their needs.

Creating Awareness Through Marketing

Standard forms of marketing can be applied to build brand or image awareness:

- Advertising through various media, online and offline

- Website development and website promotion

- SEO (Search Engine Optimization) via on site and off site optimization

- Article Marketing

- Online business and marketing forums

- Social Marketing, Social Networking or Bookmarking online

This involves a commitment to becoming more knowledgeable in your marketing niche and more thorough and professional in the services you offer and how you deliver them.

Actually, I'm being a bit dramatic there. The secrets to Search Engine Success aren't really secret. And neither is the source of much of my Search Engine Optimization (SEO) information.

Effective Search Engine Optimization (SEO) begins with choosing the right Keyword Phrases to attract targeted prospects. Internet Home Business marketers who focus on the use of proper Keyword Phrases enjoy the most online marketing success.

As a continuing student of effective SEO practices, I try to spend some time each week learning and applying effective SEO techniques to enhance the visibility of my StarrBizz.com Internet Home Business opportunities website in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).

The first thing I learned about SEO was that your keywords must be relevant to your website. Visitors who have found your site via a search engine are looking for something in particular and you don't want to disappoint or discourage them or you will quickly lose them.

The second thing I learned was that you need to choose a keyword phrase that gets a reasonable number of searches each month, but not a phrase with too much competition.

Your goal is to have your website appear on the first page of search results with a phrase that a good number of people are searching for, but if that phrase is too popular with other Internet Marketers, your chances of making the first page are reduced.

It can be quite a balancing act to find the right keyword phrase, but tools and resources are available to help make the process easier.

One popular keyword phrase tool is the free Google Adwords Keyword tool. This resource will help you get an indication of the number of searches there are each month for your desired keyword phrase, or for any alternative phrases you want to check. In fact, the tool will give you alternative phrases.

My SEO mentor, Suzanne Morrison, says that depending on your market, she does not recommend choosing a main keyword phrase that drops below 2,000 searches a month.

To test how much actual competition a particular keyword phrase has, you can type it into the search engine with quotes. Suzanne does not recommend using a keyword phrase where the number of competing sites is over 100,000. "Anything under 1,000 should be easily achievable," she adds, and "anything in between should be achievable with some work."

After choosing your keyword phrase, type it into a search engine (no quotes) and check out the first-page competition. What do you think? Can you compete? Is it worth working towards using the keyword phrase you have selected?

Other factors to be considered in your decision are the number of backlinks the top competitors have and how well they have optimized their websites using the keywords in their page title, page headline and throughout their web page; also, whether or not they are a popular authority site or a major company.

One thing to note is, even if they have more backlinks than you, you may still be able to compete with them if they are lacking in their keyword phrase optimization.

Proper research and use of Keyword Phrases is vital to your Search Engine Optimization efforts. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a big thing for any Internet marketer trying to rank well in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). We all focus on positive SEO, but what of the Search Engine no-no's?

Like many Internet marketers and home based Internet business enthusiasts, I work at improving my SEO knowledge and practices on a regular basis. Typically, I try to apply new, positive SEO techniques that I become aware of as quickly as I am able.

But there are also a few SEO no-no's that a good webmaster needs to be aware of that could do their web site and SERP standings harm if they aren't careful.

This is not a complete list, but it gives a few examples of things to watch for:

- Keyword Spamming: Experienced SEO practitioners know the importance and value of selecting the proper keywords and then sprinkling those keywords throughout the text on the web page. However, loading the page or "stuffing" it with too many keywords might actually do more harm than good. Use a keyword density tool to adjust the number of keywords accordingly.

- HTML Errors: A few HTML errors on your website won't be much of a problem, but too many errors on your web pages could prevent your site from being indexed. Use a website validation tool to check for HTML errors on your site.

- Flash Intros: Search engines cannot understand flash technology, so while flash movies on your home page may enhance the look and image of your site, they may also prevent it from getting the search engine rank it deserves. A text-based home page is recommended.

- Linking to Bad Neighborhoods: If you link to a site that has been penalized or banned by the search engines, your ranking can be negatively affected. Check the quality and appearance of a site first, before linking to it. Also, check to see if it is indexed in Google. Visit Google.com and enter "site:http://www.example.com" where example.com is the site that you want to check.

- Spamming on Forums and Blogs: Forums are a great source for information and inspiration and they can be another way to get backlinks, via your forum signature. Commenting on blogs can also be a source of backlinks. However, whether in forums or in blog comments, it is important that you respond thoughtfully and in a way that supports or contributes to the topic. Otherwise, your comment may get deleted or you may develop a reputation as a spammer.

If you are an Internet marketer or home based Internet business enthusiast interested in improving your Search Engine Results Page rankings, be sure to expand your SEO knowledge and practices, focus on the positives, but be aware of the SEO no-no's you need to watch out for.

The Foundation offers lots of ideas and inspiration: free resources and stories from supporters highlighting things they have done in their community.

Here are a few examples:

* Volunteer at a soup kitchen

* Go to a nursing home and sing holiday carols

* Send out holiday cards telling people why they are special

* Shovel your neighbour's walkway or driveway

* Drop off baked goods for your neighbours

Most of my friends, Internet Marketing associates and regular readers of GT Bulmer Web Bizz Blog know what a strong promoter I am of the value of online business and marketing forums. I am a member of many, and a daily participant in about four of the most popular forums.

The Entrepreneur Forums at the EvanCarmichael.com website are one of them because of the diverse business interests and marketing insights of the members of Evan's great site.

The first month I joined - August - my goal was to become familiar with the forum site and the members.

The second month - September - I set out to actively participate and yes, dominate in the monthly posting statistics! The competition was tight, but I emerged the winner and received an amazing prize: My photo and links to my website and profile all featured on the EvanCarmichael.com homepage for a whole month!

The third month - October - my goal was simply to participate and contribute to the forum community. It had not been my intention to "post the most" and become the Top Poster Boy for the month of October.
