You can either learn and practice these disciplines early in your entrepreneurial career or you can learn and practice them later. Sooner or later you must become knowledgeable and skilled in each of these (seven) areas if you are going to build a successful enterprise. And the longer it takes you to master these areas, the longer it will take and the more it will cost, before you eventually achieve your financial and business goals.”

According to Brian, the path to business success is clear: learn and apply the techniques that have already been proven by successful entrepreneurs. If you are willing to seek expert guidance and you have the personal discipline to apply what is recommended, you will succeed.

He says that one of the key reasons that accounts for 95% of business failures is the lack of knowledge. Simply put, the entrepreneur doesn’t know what he or she is doing.

Part of the problem is the fact that many aspiring entrepreneurs unfairly become influenced by “all the doom and gloom preached by the news media.” It doesn’t have to be that way, notes Brian.

To my thinking, it makes no sense to try to re-invent the wheel when others have already committed blood, sweat, toil and tears to the process. Save innovation for later once your business is established and you have a more secure income flow.

Brian points out that smart business people realize there are laws of business success. “It’s simple,” he says. “Just follow the rules and win.”

Of course, he admits, the rules always change. But what doesn’t change is the most important quality you need to succeed: Your attitude!

“Business is a state of mind. Aside from the fundamentals, your mind will carry you to your ultimate business goals.”

Brian says you must also believe in yourself and what you are doing. “The strength of your convictions will give you the confidence and patience you’ll need to reap the rewards of a profitable business.”

Once again, the underlying concept here is, don’t try to go at it alone. “Follow the clues left by those who have gone before,” encourages Brian.

You may have doubts about whether or not this is a good time to start a business, or you may doubt your current level of marketing skill or knowledge or personal confidence to start a business. That is only natural and it is good to be cautious.

However, you must also be careful not to let your self-doubts hold you back from levels of personal aspiration and business achievement that are well within your grasp. You can follow the clues left by those who have gone before.
